Hi guys. I've a few questions regarding NCI accommodation which I'm planning on applying for this year. If any of you have previous experience with NCI I'd really appreciate your help.
I'm aware that it consists of single rooms within shared apartments. For the application, I'm wondering if you can apply with someone to be in the same apartment? My friend and I are talking about doing this. It'd be really nice if this is possible.
    Thanks so much!

Hey, yeah sure. It's my third year living here now so I've had my fair share of experience.

Yeah you can apply to live with somebody. In fact, every year I've been living with 2 of my friends and we even have a 3 bed apartment to ourselves this year! But chances are you might be in a 6 bed apt, with 4 other people you mightn't know - which isn't so bad cause they match people up in relation to course/age, so you'll probably get people similar to you and your friend.

Just put their name down in the application when applying (and for your friend to put your name down too), there is an option where you can fill in a friend's (can be more than 1) name to live in the same apartment.

To be safe, I have always sent an email to the accommodation office to make sure that we were put together and there has never been any trouble.

Also, be aware when the applications open. It fills up extremely fast, so the moment it opens, please apply immediately if you and your friend want to avoid a lot of hassle house-hunting etc...

Hey there. Thanks so much for the advice. I’ll definitely be keeping all of that in mind when the applications open up. You’ve been a massive help - thanks so much!

    Hi,

when you say fast, do they run out in minutes or days? I'm wondering whether to take the day off to get my application in.

Do many TCD people live in NCI? Any drawbacks to the NCI accommodation?

I know that last year it booked up within hours of the application opening, so its best to get it in asap.

Yes, NCI is popular for TCD students, and there are many.

One of the only drawbacks is the overnight guest policy, you have to pay a deposit of 20 euro to have a guest over and it must be done before 4 o clock on that day, but it's not really a massive negative. Oh and no wifi, but that seems to be the case with a lot of student accommodation though, but you can just get a long ethernet cable (provided) and it's once again fine. As well as this you have to buy electricity cards (5e a go and last a few days - you'd probably buy 1-2 a week) which are a bit of an unseen cost (but then again, most utilities are covered) of about 150-200 euro onto the price. All in all, far more benefits than drawbacks.

What is the general scene like. Heading into final year and is always quite the effort to find accommodation in dublin and seems to be getting worse each year so was gonna give here a go. I love a good wild night, but don't want to be in mad party place in my final year

Not party mad like 1st year halls and you wouldn't be up till all hours with music etc. At the same time, it's not a monastery, there's craic to be had. For a final year it's ideal. Like in the centre of town as well so if there is anything on you can just head home and then back out.
