Applying through recruitment agencies

Can anyone explain to me a bit about how recruitment consultants work?
I recently applied for a position through one and he has sent my CV through to the employer, is this done via email or another way?

Also, the recruiter asked me about salary expectations and I said being realistic the lower end of the advertised range as I don't have much experience. Would that make them any less likely to push for me as their commission is a percentage, so if a more experienced person applies commanding a higher salary they get more commission than if they go with me?

The agency would send your CV by email.

They're more than likely sending a few applicants, not just yourself, and it's the client company who'd make the decision once they've gotten the CV's from the agency.

I have in the past had an agent get me a better salary from a company, so if they think they can they'll give it a go.

The current role in chasing seems to be being advertised by three different agencies. Would the recruiter simply just forward a CV or would they justify why they think a candidate should be picked.

Typically by email, but hopefully they'd ring the contact in the company and give them a bit of sales pitch about you.

As CatFromHue said, you're probably one of a few candidates that they're sending in, and after that it's the company's choice - but the company might also be hiring directly and/or using more than one agency, so I'm sure they'd rather get some commission on a lower paid candidate than none because they didn't fill it at all.

When i applied on Thursday he said it would be the middle of this week before he would know. I've found the role advertised by 3 agencies that I'm sure of and as I'm a graduate with little experience I cant ask for a high salary. On the other hand I need to hope that the Company will favour me as they get me cheaper, the ad did say graduates would be considered.

Just don't get your hopes up too much, a lot of recruitment consultants are consummate bullshítters!

Well, they're basically salespeople, their client is the employer not the candidates. They're searching for the best candidates for the client, not endeavouring to find work for people.

When dealing with agencies you have to know the rules of the game.

How long can it take for this to happen and interviews to be organised?

It depends - some companies might interview candidates one by one as they're sent through, some might wait until they've a big pool of candidates and interview them in a short space of time.

Was only last Thursday so I still have a chance then!

I didn't get that job due to lack of experience even though the company said they would consider graduates.
I've fogging another one that looks good for me and when I applied the recruiter said my CV was very well put together- I spent ages adapting it for the position.

I hate this part where my CV has gone forward and waiting for feedback!
