    Hello everyone,

I'd like to get a set of tests done, talk to the specialist and decide on treatment and management of the illness.

I've been struggling with allergies (multiple) for years, and would like to get in touch with the best Ireland has - and start getting proper treatment.

I've found the following (hopefully its ok to link):

slievemore-clinic.com - earliest possible visit would be at the end of March, which is too late. It appears that there are 2 specialists there, though, so I'll be calling them again to verify if either is available earlier.

clontarfclinic.com/allergy/ - the website looks bad, I'm not sure what to think of it.

    http://www.allergycounts.com/ - havent contacted yet.

    http://www.allergy4all.ie/ - havent contacted yet.

Any suggestions on who to go to?

I suffer from allergies and used to go to the clinic with the bad website mentioned in your OP.

The doctor is lovely and the visits have somewhat helped me calm down my symptoms and deal with them when the attacks start to happen (I suffer from recurring angiodema which only started to happen 4 years ago and now happens nearly every year, sometimes twice a year).

I do recommend seeing the doctor but I found getting to the bottom of the problem somewhat difficult in his and other consultant visits.

My test came back as I was severely allergic to a particular allergen which I think wasn't causing my angiodema. I am also allergic to a few different allergens which maybe as a combination could trigger my allergies. In my last episode, I was advised to go see an immunologist in a private clinic which I haven't yet.

I control mine with antihistamines and rely on my instincts - I can feel it when it's starting and I immediately take an antihistamine.

Thank you for the insight, I really appreciate that.

I went to Dr. Fitzpatrick in Slievemore Clinic. After review+tests, I was prescribed... a diet. Anticandida, to be specific.

While I'm not quick to dismiss things, and I will definitely try it out for those 3 weeks that he suggested, I still think its bollocks.

I suffered from allergies since I was less than 5, and it has not improved/gotten worse due to my eating habits - funnily enough, I follow paleo diet, which fits most of the anticandida diet criteria!!!

I found my test results from last year, which clearly suggest a very strong reaction to Timothy Grass - for which there's an actual treatment called Grazax! I called him and he said that his tests did not suggest an allergy to pollens... clearly 1 year is long enough for allergies to disappear, heh.

I want to go to another doctor but I'm unsure which one to go to, I wouldn't want to spend another couple hundred euros for nothing.

As for antihistamine - you're lucky to be able to take it. I was given a tablet yesterday morning, and I'm still foggy, more than 24 hours later - I can't recall what I did at work today!

Ask your GP to refer you to a real allergy clinic in a hospital.

You will be waiting at least six months for an consultant appointment ! After waiting seven months for my first appointment two weeks ago, I couldn't attend due to illness and it was rescheduled for next September ! Seems the number of consultants is very low for the demand ! I even asked to go private and there is also a long wait.

Yeah, but I'd much rather go with actual science than some quack who wants to sell you supplements.

were the causes of my lifelong allergies and I went to allergy specialists since I was 4 years old, It took a lot of testing , vitamins, minerals, amino acids, probiotics and various digestive enzymes to be completly liberated from the scourge of eczema and chronic sinusitis. This all took 10 years of Doctors visits and numerous teats to uncover everything and my Dr is a GP, albeit a totally exceptional one. I call her a forensic Dr for the living!!! On a good year I had 4 visits, but usually only 2 because she is always in such high demand. These treatments also cured major depression and chronic fatigue which were my main complaints, but as a wonderful side effect cured me of every other ailment I ever had at the same time. Check out Biobalance.org and read the articles related to allergies. I wish for you, the wonderful health and vitality that I am experiencing today.

The causes of my allergies were high histamine, ( this is a genetic error and fixed by taking specific amounts of certain nutrients daily). Dysbiosis (imbalanced gut bacteria) and Digestive insufficiency, my body was unable to produce enough digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid on its' own. When rebalancing my gut bacteria and commensing the strong digestive enzymes , my allaergies seemed to worsen for a while. It felt like my body was detoxing.

I was referred to the said allergy specialist by my GP. I probably could've continued my treatment with him but I just thought it was too expensive. He offered me immunotherapy which I was tempted to take but again, way too expensive considering that I would spend all my spare money on allergy treatment + anti histamine.

The anti histamine I was prescribed to is a sort of new drug from Luxembourg - which is only available on prescription and it doesn't cause drowsiness. However, again, I found them way too expensive compared to conventional OTC ones so I went back to the OTC ones and I drink loads of coffee and vitamines throughout the day.

To be honest, with all the things I've done for my allergy, I still got angioedema every year so at this point, I've accepted the fact that I will always have allergy attacks once in a while and I just focus on dealing with symptoms - mainly extreme itchiness & random rashes that flare up with no warnings.
