A referee has allegedly been shot and seriously injured during a bare knuckle boxing match at a halting site in Drogheda.

The unsanctioned fight at the Cement Road in Drogheda happened this afternoon.

A police helicopter and up to 10 units were deployed and closed off the Mell part of the town.

The man is allegedly said to be in a serious condition and being treated in Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

Scary scenes apparently at this, a family member of mine lives close by and said the Garda helicopter and armed units were at the scene. That part of Drogheda contains a settled traveler community as well as a halting site.

In other words everywhere within a five mile radius of Drogheda town centre.

The traveling community could adapt FIFA's Respect for Referees campaign of a number of years ago. It's all about setting a good example and teaching kids to not answer back the referee or the "fair play man"

According to the comments below the article no one was shot.

Considering it hasn't made the mainstream media it doesn't sound too credible.
