Need a bit of help choosing a new tv box. I am an absolute space monkey when it comes to technology so you have to go easy on me. I'm looking to get a box where I can basically watch all sky channels but also stream movies and tv shows. I'd like to be able to hit a button to record/pause. I have no expierience in setting up anything like this so would prefer to just plug in and play. I don't know if this is all possible with one box but any help is appreciated. I'm in the Kildare area.

I believe you should ask your question in this forum: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=56

Plenty of Freesat/Saorview boxes out there to choose from to potentially replace most of Sky's features e.g. Amiko Alien 2+.

FWIW, it's a move that I'm glad I made, and I wish I did it sooner.
I wasn't watching enough scheduled TV to justify Sky's prices.

When you say a free sat box I take it they can get all sky sports and movies? Where would I find one that has everything already set up where I can just plug it into the telly and bobs your uncle?

Not a SKY customer but AFAIK Sky Sports/Movies are extra paid services over and above SKY's FTA offerings. To the best of my knowledge what you are asking for i.e.
    basically watch all sky channels
on a non-sky platform, that is without an official SKY decoder card is illegal. It is, I know, possible however I'd doubt anyone on this forum will advise you on this. In any case, you may want to ask in the HTPC forum though I'd also doubt anyone there will be forthcoming with the kind of info you want.

I bought my box around 5 years ago from satellite.ie and recommended some of my colleagues to use them too. But in fairness there are quite a few suppliers in this area now. Shop around, find one for a good price and look for referrals. Last thing you need is some cowboy coming out trying to sell you a new dish when your sky one will work fine. You'll probably just need an aerial to pick up Saorview but beyond that just the box itself and maybe a booster.

Like others here I made the move a long time ago, got tired of paying silly money for not great TV. I do miss SKY sometimes but the rest of the channels and Netflix have it all covered really.
