I have been doing TaekwonDo on and off for many years now and was thinking of trying something new. Years ago I was lucky enough to take a few classes in Kombatan Arnis in Waterford, and I absolutely loved it and have always wanted to go back to something similar.

I am now living in Stillorgan and am wondering if there is anywhere nearby teaching FMA. I have a good bit of experience so I'm not necessarily looking for the most combat-oriented style, just something with a good syllabus and a nice atmosphere to train in. As a student I don't have the means to travel any huge distance which is why somewhere reasonably close would be preferable but at a push I could train in the city centre. Alternatively I might be interested in taking private classes if the details suited. Feel free to PM me if needs be to discuss it and thanks for any help.

Ray Chambers is based around your area, I think, been involved in the FMA for donkey's years. Maybe try and track him down?

Thanks, it's not a name I'm familiar with but I'll try to track him down

Wild geese martial arts in Pearse Street teach Doces Pares escrima, among many other arts that are taught there.

Thanks, that was the main one that googling brought up, and Doce Pares looks like a great comprehensive style. The only thing stopping me is the travel which is why I'm investigating if there's anything closer, as I'd like to be able to commit to training regularly.

Check "llanera fighting systems" . There seems to be a club in Donnybrook.

    Howdy,
The Llanera fighting systems classes in Donnybrook have finished, but it's still going on in Bray and the 145 bus will drop you out there. Classes are 7.30pm on Friday's and 11am on Sundays..

    Hi LaoiseFitz

I run a dog brothers martial arts group in Balally so I think we would be the closest to you. Its a pretty comprehensive style and is effective but dont worry there is no obligation to spar just show up and learn. If your interested let me know we run classes on a sunday from 2-4 and I also hold private lessons. If your interested get in touch we are currently in the run up to this years gathering so are trying to get in as much training as we can.

Hi padimus, Bray might not be too bad an option as its right on the bus line. Fridays and Sundays are a bit tricky but I will look into it when I have more time.

Hi there, Balally would certainly be very handy as its just a short walk. I am not currently around very much on Sundays but I expect this to change by April/May. If its suitable I might send you a PM in the near future regarding private classes
