Pre 63 Conversion Question

I'm currently looking at a pre 63 investment property in D6 converted into 8 apartments. In excellent condition and conforms with all of the new building regs.

Two of the units are located on the ground floor and I'd like to combine the two of them into one renovated modern unit (which I'd live in) and retain the other 6 overhead for the income.

Couple of questions, would planning be required to convert from 8 units to 7?

If yes, is a planning likely to succeed (are councils pernickety about those type of applications?)

House is a redbrick but not a particularly architecturaly attractive one and the works would not impact on the external appearance or materially on the internal look of the house

    Thanks for any advice

Planning required and likely granted assuming other units comply with planning as you suggest. Probably need a FSC update aswell
