    I have a northen ireland provisional licence i was wondering can i drive in ROL on my own any info would be great

    Answer = NO.

    Same way that someone with a Learner permit issued in the Republic of Ireland, CANNOT drive or ride in the North or the UK, or anywhere else.

    PLEASE NOTE :
    You CANNOT drive in the ROI with a provisional Licence which was issued in the North,,, even if another full Licence holder is with you.

    To drive in the republic,, you will have to start all over again.

    Even if you get an ROI learner permit you'll still need to be accompanied. People (including myself) used to chance is as the guards would usually let you off with a warning. What's changed is that fixed penalties can now be issued rather than the matter always going to court so guards are much more likely to slap you with a FPN.

    That's interesting. I actually never considered that a provisional license (now a learner permit) would be useless outside the state it was issued. I am certain I drove up North a good 10 years ago when I had only a provisional license. I was totally unaware that I should not have been doing that :o
