Why do plumbers feel they can charge an arm and a leg for fitting a stove? A plumber quoted me 1800 euro to supply and fit a stove and its parts. We want a non boiler stove fitted. We had another guy who is not a plumber but a stove fitter/expert who will charge us 400 euro to fit it. We can buy a 12kw non boiler stove for 600 euro add on cost of parts and you can see a major difference in prize. The plumber was going to install a 8kw stove. How can he justify 1800 euro for a fecking non bolier stove?

Well the plumber is probably charging vat too, has expenses to pay and is not delivering the post every other day
Are the 2 stoves the same brand? There's plenty of stove shops supplying absolute crap and calling them stoves.
Maybe the plumber is doing the flue a different way too.

The plumber was talking about installing a Stanley. Stove installer recommended a heritage stove. We can get the Heritage on sale for 580 and have it installed for another 300 plus parts 120. That's nearly 800 euro in the difference

And how much was the Stanley stove the plumber was supplying?

About the same 600 smackers, so I don't know where he is going with his 1800

Are they both doing the flue the same way?
Also as I said earlier, the plumber is a business man. Is this stove fitter a business man or on the dole who's handy ?

Surely you looked for quotes from more than one plumber?
Anybody can quote you any figure it is up to you to get a few detailed quotes and compare them. You also need to be comfortable you will have some recourse if the work is not completed to a satisfactory standard.
Stoves can be problematic. Just read the number of queries raised here regarding blowback, correct flues etc.

Also, are both guys quoting for installing a non closable vent in the wall and carbon monoxide alarm.
Basically make sure your quotes are like for like.
