My JSA is coming to an end and I have been asked to do a means test. I was made redundant and I bought an old house and did it up with my redundancy as I had been renting. I have a wife ( who does not work) and a 7 year old girl . The question is will that come against me spending most of my redundancy putting a roof over our heads it seemed to make sense at the time. My savings are now under 10k. Thanks for your help.

As long as your savings are under 16k, it should not affect your JSA means test.

As long as your savings are under €20k and the only property you own is the one you are living in and that is what you used your redundancy for then there wont be a problem.

Thank you both for your help. I was very worried that this would effect my claim. My priority is to find a job but to date not much luck after working for the same company for over 30 years. Thanks again for your help.
