Eircom F1000: connecting another router as wireless client

    Hi,

I have an Edimax BR-6204Wg wireless router that can be configured as an infrastructure client to act as a bridge for devices connected to its Ethernet ports. This used to work fine with my previous router, but it won't connect to my new eFibre F1000. Are there settings I need to change on either router, or am I out of luck?

You need to change settings on the client, not the router.

You need to change settings on the client, not the router.

I've set the right SSID and password on the Edimax router to connect to the new Eircom router, and I can also connect to spare routers I have. It looks like an incompatibility between the two routers, unless there's a setting somewhere I need to enable.

I've solved the problem, so I'll give the details here in the hope that someone else finds it useful. The Edimax router was at fault, because it doesn't send a WPA IE in its association request when the Eircom router is configured as WPA with mixed TKIP/AES and the Edimax's "WPA Unicast Cipher Suite" option is set to "WPA(TKIP)". The fix was to set the Eircom to WPA2.

I also found that the Eircom's WPA2 "WPA-PSK Compatible" option didn't work unless it was previously set to pure WPA2 (with that option off).
