middle east or Asia?

Hi all! I'm a teacher of English who has been working in the UK and the time has come for me to leave. I've been here two years and love teaching but my beau, who is Irish like me isn't a fan and wants to return home. I know the teaching situation is dire so I'm half preparing to move on if I don't secure work quickly. The issue is my beau would really struggle trying to secure work in his field (healthcare) so I'm trying to choose a location wisely.

Obvious choices are the middle east or Asia - has anyone worked in both and can compare? Also, has anyone moved over with a non-teacher and helped them secure work?

    Thanks in advance

I've worked in China, Singapore and UAE. I taught English in China and science in Singapore. Personally, if I had a choice right now to go back to one of them it would be Singapore, followed by China.

Although I did enjoy my time in Abu Dhabi I just found the place lacking in terms of things to do. In saying that, Dubai might be different but I haven't lived there so can't comment. What does your partner so in healthcare? I know UAE recruit a lot of healthcare professionals from abroad...I met a number of nurses, doctors and people in other health related fields there. Also, if you find the right teaching job the money and perks are on different level to anywhere else (bar maybe S. Arabia).

In saying all that, it's not just about the job, and this is where Asia wins for me. Singapore is a great city to live, really vibrant and plenty of things to do and see. I only worked Monday to Thursday when I was there so once or twice a month I would head off somewhere for the 3 days...Malaysia, Bali, Indonesia, Thailand etc all really accessible! Singapore is not cheap, but the money is good. Not sure about your partner getting work though, only ever met teachers and business professionals there. Plenty of international schools there, so you should have no problems getting a jobs. Most if what I've said above also applies to Hong Kong.

China is a great place to live. Wonderful culture and history, and amazingly friendly people. I lived in Shanghai, best city I've ever been in. The only problem is I would imagine your partner would have to work teaching English as they don't hire foreigners for much else. Apart from really specialist positions. I'm pretty sure Korea is the same. Again, with your experience you should be looking at international schools, more money.

Most countries will allow you to bring a spouse, on a spouse visa. Some countries will allow them to work on this visa, some won't (in Singapore you can, I think).

Sorry for rambling on haha. My advice would be look at your partners profession and look what places are hiring. Also look what countries allow non-teaching spouses to work. Do this first, because with your qualifications and experience you will basically get a job no problem in any of the countries ive mentioned (and many I havent).

If you have any more questions feel free to ask. Also there's plenty of countries in the middle East and Asia I haven't lived, so maybe someone else can give you advice on those!!
