    Hi guys,

I've a fire-brick (at least that's what I think they're called) in my stove, and noticed this morning that it has split:

Is this normal? Have I anything to be worried about, like maybe the stove running too hot? (It's multifuel other than coal, so we burn mainly logs, with a little turf and briquettes also.)

    Thanks for any advice.

Exact same problem so would be interested in hearing solution.
When we first got stove we weren't using it right and had it busting out too much heat. We have it sorted now but think we cracked fire stone in the first few moths. We have used away at the fire and have had no problems.
    Replacements can be ordered though.

?? What do you mean you weren't using it right? Were you putting too much fuel in, or....???

We were filling it up with coal, sticks, turf and when a good fire was going, instead of closing off the air supply, we just left it burning hard.

    BUMP

So, experts - what's the general consensus out there? Have I anything to be worried about?

    Thanks for any advice.

Put them broken firebricks back where they belong, as best you can, and away you go, try and get some fire cement and cement them back in. no big problem.

I don't mind getting new bricks. What I'm trying to figure out is, is the fire/stove running too hot? It's a cassette stove, set (professionally) into fire-proof/resistant plasterboard, and I've read one or two horror stories about the plasterboard or timber frame holding it in place combusting due to the heat.

Is it normal for fire bricks to split?
