Bought a one-way from Galway to Ennis to go home for the weekend and my lift bailed on me at the last minute.

I still have to go back tomorrow but I will only be getting a return

Do you reckon I'd only have to pay a little extra (€3 diff) for the return or the full whack (€14.25)

Sounds kind of soft, but I'm a college student and the €11.25 I could save could be the difference between having a decent meal for the week or not :/

Officially no, but no harm in asking.

If it a single ticket that has already been used then no. Don't bother asking as it is against the rules.

Although it is not strictly allowed for all circumstances returns can be excessed to change validity or destination and singles to change destination without too much problem.

Excessing a single to a return would be a strict no as it is too open to accusations of fraud, it would be all too easy for staff to collect used singles, combine with a small excess and pocket the difference. It is not exactly unknown for chancers to pick up discarded tickets off the street and try to blag their way on board either.

If it an internet ticket that you have ordered but not yet used an inspector (if you can find one in a good mood) could authorise a driver to give you an excess and endorse the ticket but even that is unlikely, best course of action would be to apply for a refund of the internet single and buy a new return.
