Have any of you registered a web based business with adult content?
Is there any difference in the registration for an adult related business?

Selling products like lotions and whips or pornographic material (pics and videos)?

For a lotions and whips its just another online store, anything else I would avoid Ireland as much as possible from a PR point of view.

Visa/Mastercard/PayPal and possibly Stripe and others wont work with porn sites so you would need to think about how to make revenue, I would say banks here have the same guidelines and getting a Merchant account will be difficult in such a high risk industry.

How adult a business is it? Maybe get in contact with Sex Siopa when they started up I helped them with a few bits and pieces business wise so maybe they will be happy to pass it forward!

I understand but what if you're just administrating it in Ireland but the servers etc are in another country.
They can't tell you that you can't do it right? if it's a legitimate service that millions of other websites offer worldwide.
I know some payment processors are connected to paypal recently and adult sites offer these payment options which
gives you an option to use paypal or other payment processors that until now did not support adult content.
I'm just saying it's easy to use paypal or another payment gateway, for a web based service.
How could it be considered illegal in Ireland if it's not psychically in Ireland.
I'm not trying to set up anything illegal but the laws might be different here to the likes of some US states.
It's just a few ideas, i do some designs for adult projects but I often think I should be running them not building them.

Just because it is a legitimate service somewhere does not mean it is a legitimate service everywhere. I would imagine ISPs here may well have it as part of their terms and conditions that you cannot operate such a site via them. If you are serious about it I would be going through that sort of thing instead of posting about it here where its highly unlikely anyone is going to have any relevant experience.

It's good to know these things, appreciate the feedback,
But if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right the first time, that's why I'm asking.

Porn is not illegal under Irish law.

People assume it is .. but it isn't ..

Location of servers is irrelevant. If you are an Irish business / Irish resident you are subject to Irish law. (also see previous point above about legality)

FYI some of the biggest hardcore porn companies in the world are based in Europe and several of them have their official HQ in Dublin ..

I guess my question should have been, is it legal to operate an adult video chat business in Ireland.
You have me thinking of those Irish TV adverts you might see, teens on phones, offering chat/phone sex/dating services.
Why would you be stopped from doing it professionally online, to a global market, if they can do it on Irish TV.

I can't see any reason why there would be any issue with this

I would, however, recommend you get good legal advice before you do anything.
Setting up any kind of business can go sideways if you miss out on some simple yet stupid detail

?? So you first ask about adult content, then there is talk of porn and now you call it 'dating'.. seems like procuring/prostitution .....so that is illegal.

Oh no, my heart would be fully in an adult based business no matter what anyone else thought, as long as it's legal and humane.
I'm not ashamed to say I would like to run such a service, cams, dating whatever, the money would be very good as well.
My morals might be a bit different than someone married with kids, but that doesn't make me a bad person, a lot of people
work behind the scenes for adult related companies, they're still good people.

The way I see it is you could be working as an affiliate and making a few grand, but the company you work for make millions.
I wouldn't mind sharing those profits, obviously some of your employees would be making a lot more than the average job, fair play.
It's just a business if you look at it that way, shady perhaps, but it's still a business, and it doesn't change the person i am.
I've looked at the software others use, you could be up and running for as little as 2 grand, less, but you'd keep a few bucks
away to cover server costs etc. for a few months until the whole projects starts paying for itself, and it will if done right.
Adult content is probably the biggest selling service available on the web, dating, toys, clothing, sex etc.

I hope others share my view that you need a moral compass, not business advice from here. Goodbye.

You may have a hard job getting a web address.
My wife had a shop called Shag ( shoes and bags) they were very reluctant to let us have www.shag.ie. But once we showed them the Shop they let us have it . Regrettable I ket it expire when the shop closed, I must try to get the address back.
