Dual Link DVI - Can I drive two monitors?

    Hi folks,

    I'm looking at getting a GTX 960. I have a dual monitor setup (2 x 1920 x 1080 res monitors).

One of my monitors only has a DVI connection but the other has DVI and HDMI connections.

Some GTX 960 cards have a single "dual link DVI" port.

    I have two questions.

    1. Does Dual link DVI mean that I can drive two monitors independently from a single dual link DVI connector on the graphics card? If so, do I need some sort of adapter?

    2. If I drive one monitor using the DVI connection on the graphics card and the other monitor via HDMI... are there any issues? Is it somehow better to have the same connection type for both monitors, or is it ok to have one via DVI and HDMI for the other?

    Thanks in advance!

Dual link is to send more data rather than dual monitors - i.e., for higher resolutions, frequencies etc.

You can use DVI with one monitor and HDMI with the other. There shouldn't be any issues.
HDMI and DVI are both digital connections and will have the same quality. Only big differences is that HDMI can carry sound among other data types, has digital rights management and earlier versions were not able to keep up with DVI in terms of resolution.

For 1920x1080 monitors, it should be exactly the same.
