I am immigrating to Australia shortly. One thing I can't understand though is the thing with proving what money you have in your account? How am I supposed to have a bank statement? I do have the funds btw.

What else do I need to have? A copy of my visa, passport and a bank statement?

I didn't need to (from memory) a Visa was all I needed to cross the border.

(That was in 04 in fairness)

You spent your time there drunk as a skunk, lieing on Bondai, telling everyone you were in the 'Ra. No one wants to hear about that.

Seriously dude if you go into the bank you can get a mini statement printed out from one of their many machines that have replaced humans.
If you want a six month statement, ask them.

    It's not a requirement for a resident.
I'd imagine that the OP is on a working holiday visa. The sufficient funds is a requirement so that he ca get himself set up with time to find work. Rather than landing skint in Sydney and hoping for the best.

You don't need a copy of you visa. The'll have a record of it.
You don't necessarily need a bank statement. You just need proof of access to finds if requested.
They almost never request this info, unless they think the person is a risk.

When I went out to Oz in 1999 it was a one year working holiday visa. From memory you had to provide...

    A copy of your passport
A letter from your bank to show you had a minimum of £3500
A letter from your current employer to say you still had a job to return to

This was obligatory when you applied from N.Ireland. There didn't seem to be as many head the balls back then. The Irish were fairly well accepted and most of the lads I met worked hard and didn't act the bollix.

    This.

No exaggeration, I got about 3 jobs (i was limited to stay in a job for, (i think from memory) 3months at a time)

Hand on my heart, I got jobs by calling the number...

"hello there, I'm ringing (<sounded daft to an Aussie apparently) about the job on out notice board "

" ok mate, well, it's pretty hard work, hang on a minute, you're Irish? "

    " aye"

"ok you got the job Mate, you guys are hard workers ".....

Apparently that's went 180° these days

Just print up a copy of at least one of your bank accounts.

First off, would I be correct in thinking that you're not emigrating but your son is? Are you or your son with an Irish bank? You must receive regular statements in the post. Use the last one you received. You or he shouldn't really need it but it's important to be ready for all that immigration can throw at you. Good luck to you(or your son)!

OP, are you coming to Australia on a holiday, working holiday or to live here permanently?

Your answer will determine just how sad I will be.

You don't need to show funds for a migrant visa but you do sometimes need to demonstrate you have funds for state sponsorship and you are talking about $25K-$30K.

I suspect when OP is talking about "immigrating" he probably means he is going on holiday for a year.

It's not though. Back in 2000 on the olympic games there was a gang of about 40 lads on my team. One scotch lad, a welsh fellow and 2 english lads and the rest were Irish lads. The boss man would nearly always employ Irish lads..."good to go" was his expression.

I also worked for 2 english brothers and they never employed anyone only Irish lads as they claimed that we had a good work ethic.
