If it still runs the best value you can get by far is trade her vs something. By a long way. Even if your not upgrading maybe you know someone who is.

I don't know who currently has best deals but Renault were knocking off 5k for anything running a few years back and Toyota was 3k at the time.

I wouldn't know what breaker is best up there but Google breakers around Galway and you should get one.

A working engine is always useful to a breaker plus all the small bits. Without knowing much about the car scrap get maybe €200, breaker €400-600 and upto a few grand if you can get it traded in.

Scrap is way down. Depending on the car it may get above bridge value, but it needs to be something worth breaking.

Currently, shells are £55 a ton. Number 1 is £100

If you google Tom Relihan in Kerry you can call him. He will tell you exactly what its worth to break to the trade. He might even offer to pick it up on a truck and make you offer over phone. Either way he would give you a fair idea what it's worth.

i'd advertise it on DD or adverts ..spares or repair €250....might get €180

you'll get about 100 - 160 for a complete car. Remember to cut the cat off as that is worth about 30 euro in the scrap yard. They use it for the metals inside it.

I'm in the same boat here, just put my transit up for sale which failed the DOE quite badly, in that the amount it would cost to repair would probably be more than the van would be worth after repairs:(

The van is still starting and running fine, engine and all other parts like mirrors, headlamps, rear lamps etc are all good too, and collectively, probably worth more than my asking price being sold individually as used parts.

I guess it's just a case of waiting for the right buyer to make an offer, but I'll try contact a breaker and see what they offer. Finding somebody doing a trade in would be a tad tricky I'm guessing, but would be nice to do a % share on the trade in discount on a new van for sure.

many of these scrappage offers require the vehicle to be taxed and tested (Renault) or less than 10 years old (Ford)

It's still taxed until May, next service is due in May too :) It passed the previous DOE no problem from what I remember so it must have just had the van equivalent of a stroke in the last year with all the fail items.

I just rang a breaker and they only offered 250. I'd probably get around that selling the engine alone.

EDIT: Just rang another breaker who offered 400, that's a bit better but if a poster above reckons a breaker can offer €600 for a car, I might get a little more for a transit , especially given the extra weight.
