Sorry to hear about the guys losing their jobs. Tough times ahead for them and their families no doubt.

A part of me hopes the 170 are the people responsible for designing the Horizon box. That thing is a piece of poo.

ffs moving to a location with broken English and people who provide no added value.

Short-sighted by UPC and they will lose more customers as a result. I still have nightmares about the times when I called the Sky Indian call center.

It's make me laugh /mad when 200 jobs are announced over the next 5 years, i often wondering if in 5 years the place that the jobs are for will still be there,Then in the next instance 100/150 are being lost elsewhere. Yea Ireland is really getting back to work (not)

The internet/tv business is getting very competitive so I'm not that surprised that UPC have done this.

Are these jobs based in Limerick?

Some in Limerick, some in Cork IIRC.

I guess the question here is what kind of jobs are being lost. You'd have no issue finding a technology role. There seems to be a good few CS jobs around, though many looking for multilingual staff, which UPC likely didn't hire.

I hope they haven't decided to outsource all the customer service and support to the Far East!!

You don't have to look too far to realise that service levels and customer satisfaction will fall to the floor. Why do you think some UK companies advertise that they have UK call centres and service centres? It's because outsourcing failed, pissed off the customers and they left in their droves!

It is generally accepted that the UPC customer service is pretty poor as it is. Not being funny but it may improve their customer service experience.

Not supporting the job loses however. Just a side note on the service side.

Going by the standard of service in the 'Talk to UPC' forum on here, it can't really fall much further.
