Poor Peugeot, never gets mentioned around here. I think they have pulled off an excellent facelift on the rather droopy 508. Looks much more striking and purposeful now.

Don't think the back and front are cohesive at all. Not a bad front, reminds me slightly of a gallant. Hate the PEUGEOT written above the logo though.

    Looks good.

    Better looking than new mondeo.

OCD says that the rear 508 badge can't be in that location

I saw one up close this week as it cruised past me on the motorway, very nice looking indeed....

I seen one up close recently, wasn't impressed with it being honest. I found the new nose a bit disjointed from the rest of the styling (as is with alot of facelifts). I preferred the pre facelift model.

Overall though they tend to be overlooked and as a result they are fairly cheap after a few years. Shame most of them sold here are 1.6 litre.

There were 324 registered last year.
    272 were 1.6 diesel.

You're right. Poor Peugeot indeed, they really are the dubious winners of the least talked about model range out there. Even Suzuki got a look in lately albeit for all the wrong reasons.

They're just such an afterthought brand these days. So mehhh, so bland, so twee. Some drop from their perch of old. 204, 404, 504/Coupe, 505, 205, 405 and lately 406 Coupe. These were segment defining models. There isnt a single pug that's class topping or possibly even competitive these days.

When you look at the range and go "that's the new version of the ....." You know things are bad

It really looks nicer than most of the stuff in its class,

bar the Mondeo, thats stunning. This is good though. Always liked the ol 508.

Whats the pricing like on these compared to a Passat or some such?

    No.

    No.

I guess private buyers are just going for the Passats and whatnot instead.

Nicer car though imo, the 508.

    IMO:

    Look better than:

Its a close one, I'll give you that.

I like the Peugeot for it's rarity.

I reckon with the right spec level I'd probably go for a 508.

You know what, you're dead right.it is a good car. But its todays world and what we demand. It's our own fault. We're spoiled these days. It is a good car. Its just that nearly everything else is better, way better.

She's out a few years in fairness.

Bob Flavin gave it a rave when it first came out, I remember:

But you're right standards in this segment are very high these days...

I've had a Peugeot and it was one of the most economical and reliable cars I've ever owned, if you look after them they're bullet proof....

In certain parts of the country, Peugeot/Citroen are pretty strong.

There are an awful lot of C5s around me. You'd see a lot of Peugeots around Tipp.

I would not spend 30k on one of these, but would happily go to the UK and buy a well specced used one for 10k or so.

Had a new Facelift SW in last week for a customer. It's got a big jutting out chin.

On paper, it's got all the bits of a really nice car, but there's just something that doesn't work for me. One we had was a 2.0Hdi Allure with Nav and all the bits. Still take a Superb instead, and used 508 values are almost as bad as the 407.

It's better looking than the mondeo, I'll give it that. It's close but it wins out on not having the Ford-Aston Martin grill. They're all like that now.

It's ugly. Peugeot completely lost their way about 15 years ago and are now among the also-rans. Shell out your hard earned for one of these and you will not give it away in 3 years time...

Ha! Bob Flavin gives everything a rave review. His "reviews" are to be taken with a pinch of salt

people, please remember this car will be less desirable then a turd on your shoe in 5 years time, and the electrics will be gone mad. meanwhile the Mondeo will hold value and realiability.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,546 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

    Mondeo hold value?

That peugeot looked well in the picture but looked really crap in the video. You still see a lot of peugeots around though. I remember the old 508 seemed to be everywhere at one stage.

I was in a Main Peugeot Dealership before Christmas in Perth, Scotland, where the Scottish should love the Peugeot money off offers.

I asked the owner how the New Peugeot 308 sales were going and I was really surprised that the he said 'Oh I can't give them away!'

He sounded really pissed off, but he did say the 3008 and 2008 and especially the 208 were selling well.

I really like the 308, such an improvement over the last generation!

I'd take that article with a pinch of salt. Mondeos and Fords in general don't have strong residuals as they are very popular as fleet cars meaning a glut of them hit the used market regularly.

That article also mentions the Mondeo having a more premium feel interior to the Passat. While the new Mondeo's interior is a huge step up from the previous model, the new Passat has raised the bar again.

Anyway this thread is about the Peug 508.

All comments here are on a picture of a range topping 508. Which looks good and I hated look of pre facelift. Now pop on the paddy spec steel rims. Remove all the trims and accessories etc and see how it looks.

The 1.6 is the PSA. What's the 2.0 is that a Peugeot or ford engine?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,487 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Peugeot use their own PSA engines.

Have to admit I quite like them and am tempted to buy one of the older models ,don't really like the back end ,looks like as clarkson put it a dog with worms dragging its backside along the floor, but seeing as I would be driving it is more about the interior for me and they look nice.

The base model has 16" alloys, middle 17" and Allure has 18". There are no steel wheels. Keep in mind the top spec Allure (which is loaded including sat Nav) can be had for €30,000, probably less with a bit of haggling. I reckon it is about €5K cheaper than an equivalent Passat, which still has no Sat Nav.

don't really like the back end

The reshaped rear lamp clusters certainly help though, very E60 5 series.
