Broke a media embargo by announcing the Ed Sheeran gig too early apparently. Seems it could all be a PR stunt of some sort

    More here

Everyone in studio suddenly realised that morning zoo radio is a crime against humanity so they all just left.

So has Spin suspended their presenters?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,118 ✭✭✭Expunge

I'm afraid it's past the suspension stage by now.

The Curragh is being prepared for internment without trial for these clowns.

There'll need to be segregation between the rival 'Zoo' gangs from FM104, Spin, 4FM etc.

The Brekfast Republic shower may have to be executed, as there's no way back for them.

Not that I'm aware of, but supposedly there was no mention of an embargo in the press release email

Ryan Tubriby after tweeting picture with Ed Sheran and exclusive announcement. Wondering if the dark side made a complaint?

Statement released on FM104 Facebook page,

    ***FM104’s Strawberry Alarm Clock Update***
This morning on FM104’s Strawberry Alarm Clock presenters Jim Jim and Nobby broke an embargo concerning the Ed Sheeran concert at Croke Park. The embargo was enforced until 8.55am, which the presenters were fully aware of. Due to the edgy nature of the show, Jim Jim and Nobby teased the news prior to the agreed time and left listeners in little doubt as to who was going to be announced. Despite getting a phone call from FM104’s CEO Margaret Nelson confirming the embargo last night, the guys didn’t take it seriously enough. After a difference of opinion, Programme Director Dave Kelly went into the studio at 9am and told the presenters that due to the seriousness of their actions they would be suspended until further notice. The presenters have been asked, however, to facilitate their car giveaway final with Volkswagen Ireland tomorrow morning. Disciplinary action will be taken, but beyond that FM104 cannot confirm details.

The fact they are allowed on air tomorrow seems it is nothing but a PR stunt.

If there were in trouble they wouldn't be allowed to facilitate anything.

So they got suspended for announcing a concert early?

If they both got suspended, they wouldn't be allowed on tomorrow. PR stunt, plain and simple!

What time did they announce it at? Clearly a PR stunt, stupid stuff.

Ben Murray on air this morning. No tweets from the two yesterday. I think the funny business a few mention above has been toned down of late. Maybe one or two sketches a week. Jim and Mark are a very good combination.

Did he mention anything about why they weren't on this morning?

A joke that's been spun out too long. If they were actually suspended ut wouldn't have made the media like it did . Times must be tough for the strawberries

I assumed that the duo's suspension was in order to safeguard the station's relationship with the concert promoter, who would provide them with tickets, artist meet + greets, cds etc.

In the way that it's rubbish. The fact that they think they're "messers" and funny is embarrassing.

Ray Foley is the king of breakfast radio in Dublin, I suspect 104 know this, hence the reason for this pathetic stunt.

Foley has a fraction of the audience.

Are you for real?? The strawberries have more than double Foley's audience. The show as a brand is around 20 years and still going strong. He is king of nothing in Dublin

Jaysus Chill out and relax there Jim / Nobby will ya!

People listen to the thripe that is the Strawberry alarm clock out of habit more than enjoyment. It's on the decline.

Foley is the king Jim / Nobby, all hail the king!

You clearly are a joker.. Strawberries went up in the recent JNLR..
Foley was brought in to save 98fm and had no impact in 3 years, if he was any good it would have visible in the figures, it's not. 98fm brought Adrian and Jermey in and that is having an impact on their figures, clearly as they resonate with the Dublin market, not some bog trotter

After 2 years he has half the audience of a brand, that in your own words has 20 years on him. That's good going no?

No, previous breakfast shoes has signifincantly more listeners on 98fm. Also, the level of marketing etc for the show is nearly in preceeceded in Dublin - clearly money down the toilet.

What was the original share the previous hosts had? I'm a Foley fan but he hasn't made a huge impact at all

I'm not sure. I genuinely think he has. He'll improve the ratings.

What facts are you basing that on?? Do you run a market research bureau?
He has had a fews years and to improve ratings and hasn't..
When Dermot and Dave were on breakfast had double what Foley has.

When or where did I say I was basing this on fact??? It's opinion.

How long were Dermot and Dave on air? At what stage into their tenure did their listener ship peak?

You should try to avoid making opinions when there are lots of facts about th subject matter, it makes you look ridiculous.

Dermot and Dave's listenership was high after the first 6 months and hoped between being number one between being number one with the strawberries after a year.

When Colm and Jim presented The Strawberry Alarm Clock they had ratings around 100k at their peak. Although the market was different then to today's (more stations and choices available) they were miles ahead of the rest in Dublin. They were consistant and while the others chopped and changed they were left alone. Then they headed off to the dark side.
FM104's ratings dropped to around 60k-70k during the time Jim Mc Cabe and Niamh something or other presented the show. Then common sense prevailed and Nobby was put in to steady the ship. He had a female co-presenter for a while but then all of a sudden Jim Jim's trip to the dark side had come to a halt, he returned and the rest is history.

Now from reading some of the comments posted yesterday and this evening people seem to think its that whacky show from the 90s or early 00s. Its not. It has moved away from that and has a different style now. It still has the traditional bits and pieces but nothing whacky. Lucy's Kitchen Phone call this week was bloody hilarious.

It the show the rest have to beat in Dublin to be the best. Only Morning Ireland has more listeners in Dublin at that time.

Wow... you are actually hilarious, I think you might be one of the missing pieces of the puzzle for 98! Sarcasm by the way.

Foley has been an absolute flop. Over a million euro spent on marketing which has resulted in nothing. 3 years on he has less tuning in than Aidan & Claire . He's pretentious, full of his own self importance and honestly not the slightest bit funny, but each to their own - you are just in a vast minority.

Jim Jim & Nobby on the other hand have double the listenership with quite considerably less marketing budget. Recent JNLR releases show they are number one music breakfast and growing.

So Ray, put down the keyboard and go have a nice listen to some of your Chris Moyles archive. I think you need some inspiration ;)

So it seems it was for real. The CEO is not impressed, sends the PD into talk to the lads and they're off air until Monday. Interesting times ahead! yesterdays car giveaway was also cancelled.
Has the CEO any hands on Radio experience? Never heard of her before

The CEO has been in radio for many years, predominantly in sales though.
