Hard to see past a NZ win, but England do have match winners if a couple of them fire.

Should be a good game this. Pity its not on a sat or sun. An england defeat is most likely and would see them under a lot of pressure going into the Scotland match.

I think New Zealand will have enough, but it would be great if England could put in some kind of decent performance to give me a tiny bit of hope.

If England lose wickets early i think they'll fall apart.

They'll have to see off Boult and Southee and ease into it from there.

    Hope Morgan gets it together.

England win the toss and choose to bat.

If this was an associate who had batted like this the knives would seriously be out.

    Southee though, what a gun.

That Ashes series really did destroy this England set up in just about every way.

New Zealand have some serious talent in bowling, just that they are not hyped enough. Tim Southee is having a blinder. 7 wickets now.

Also all 3 games New Zealand bowling is on another level to any team in the world cup, have to wait and see if it's bowling or conditions helping too much.

England have an awful batting line up and were made to look better than they are by India in the tri series....

Also unlucky in the sense that their first 2 games are against in form hosts Aus and NZ.....

They can only get better from here I reckon.....

    Bring back Bopara I say!!!!!!

    Called it.

Awesome display in the field from New Zealand. Completely dominant. Southee's swing a joy to watch. Joe Root the only man who looks remotely comfortable for England.

Hopefully Anderson and co make a game of it.

Hard not to as they have hit rock bottom and their remaining games are against Bangladesh, Scotland, Afganistan and Sri Lanka.

What a debacle for England. 123 all out.
New Zealand bowling was phenomenal, Tim Southee outstanding. England were in all sorts of trouble.

New Zealand looking like serious prospects and their bowling would have had any team in trouble, almost unplayable at times.

Yeah and there was 1 delivery from Boult to Broad where the ball was heading leg side but after the pitch he went just over middle stump. Broad was squared up so easily.

Didn't get wicket but from what I have seen this WC, that was ball of the tournament.

This is going to be over in about 10 overs

It's a pity NZ chasing only 124 ..... I am feeling short changed!!

    This is a massacre

    Jesus. 16 an over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,816 ✭✭✭corny

What is it with England bowlers that they refuse to bowl a fuller length. No variation to Finn at all.

What a fantastically timed lunch. :pac:

Its about time ICC changed these rules. 12 runs to win in 41 overs, 9 wickets in hand and we have a innings break.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,693 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Farcical they have to take the break

Broad's batting has really gone from bad to worse from what I have seen of him in the last year......

Can't believe this is the same guy who once made 160 odd in a Test match against Asif and co a few years ago

This could be bad for Ireland, if England continue to slip down the ODI rankings
    1. they might not be open to ODIs against Ireland, for fear of getting beaten
    2. it's a real possibility that they come to take a higher number of Irish players and do a Rankin on them if they don't work out

    Nah.

They would have expected to lose these 2 games and they will still be hugely odds on to qualify for the quarter finals.

The ODIS they do play against us isn't to many and they send the kids over anyways.

They will take players if they think they are good enough no matter how good or bad they are doing. The Lions squad they have done well in South Africa so their is plenty of young talent like Vince, Roy and Billings floating about.

Realistically, the only player they would consider from Ireland is Dockrell.

Porterfield is probably to old, and while Stirling is good, England do have Roy, Hales and Vince on the sidelines.

England have given me zero to be hopeful about. Only positive now is they might be brave enough now to get rid of all the familiar faces from bowling and batting line ups and start again completely, once this team have finished the tournament.

May as well have a young inexperienced, hungry team than this lot. Results won't be any worse. Moores won't do that though, it'll be same old faces again and again.

Not a good time to be an England cricket fan.

Biggest worry for Ireland at the mo is the weather in Brisbane. A cyclone likely to wash out the Aus v Bang game, would be a disaster for us if we dropped points v UAE on Wed due to weather

England had three bowled by googlies ffs. Mc Cullum only needed 23 balls for 50, England should withdraw from the tournament, but they'll get through, maybe. See the Guardian's Spin blog for the way the whole thing is fixed, Ireland will have difficulty for the next tournament, even if they win this one!!

Didn’t see the match last night it was on too late for me. But it’s farcical that the associate nations won’t be in the next WC while the full members will qualify regardless of how rubbish they are.

They'll get to the QF's all right where they'll most likely end up meeting South Africa and that'll be the end of that

On the other hand you get to the QF's and then you are only 3 good days from the World Cup!!

I wouldn't write off England yet.....but you are right that top 6 of Bell/Ali/Ballance/Root/Morgan/Taylor is hardly going to cause any sleepless nights

Whats been disappointing in the 2 matches so far has been their bowling which was supposedly their strength

How many weeks does the tournament last and yet they cant have a reserve day, farcial

I thought England would test NZ but it wasn't to be. Not even the bookies expected it to be so one sided though. England need to bounce back quick.

Why can't they have so like in test cricket they can claim an extra 30 minutes when a result is so close. Nonsense going off for lunch like that.

It was the perfect game by NZ. McCullum is incredible. His field for Morgan summed him up. It's amazing how easy run scoring is when you've just skittled a team out for nothing. See it all the time, the openers have such freedom and of course the other team is completely demoralised.

Cannot wait for the NZ/Aus game now.

I don't think they or anybody would be to scared of the Saffers in the quarter final as we all know their knock out history (lol) and England have a very good limited overs record against them.

    For England I'd go with

    Bell- Hales-Taylor-Root-Morgan-Ali-Buttler-Woakes-Broad-Finn-Anderson

Ali has been to erratic at the top sadly, and it was mental moving Taylor from three.

Its crazy to think the fans and media used to hound Trott for supposedly scoring to slowly, the amount of times their limited overs side has collapsed since he left is crazy. He averaged 51 ffs in the format. :pac:
