Fixed charge offence

OK, I got a ticket today for failing to display a current road fund licence ,it's out since end of November 2014. No problem with that, it's my fault, like many others just didn't have the money over xmas etc, and was awaiting money from a social welfare claim, which ironically is due next week!

I intend to pay the fine, however the actual ticket is illegible having been printed on the Wardens hand held device. I cannot read the reg no, the location of the offence, the date or the fixed charge.

    Is the ticket valid?

So you do have a problem with it.

I have already stated that I intend to pay the ticket, but was just curious as to the validity of a ticket that cannot be read. I live in a small town with only 2 traffic wardens, both of whom know me and my car so if I were to try to be clever I am sure I would be on their hit list for some time to come!

"Road fund licence" so you're somewhere in the UK?
I don't know what UK law's view is on this but I imagine the print-out is only a counterfoil and the Warden has a legible record of the offence.

The UK have discontinued the issuing of tax discs, it's now all done with the registration number and computers.

So I would guess that the OP is in Ireland.

Yes, I am in Ireland and the offence is listed as "failing to display a current road fund licence"

It's not that illegible then? ;)

Yes I suppose so, just cant read minor details like the reg no, location, date and fixed charge amount. Perhaps its not even my ticket!!

Might not, but I wouldn't risk not checking with the local authority though.

Seems the term "road fund licence" is still used here after all.

Wasn't the road fund abolished in 1978? http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/1978/en/act/pub/0021/sec0050.html - I suspect CJH was involved.
