Is Metalic Paint worth €600 + 16 weeks wait on a new VW ?

Does "standard" paint go dull and easier to scratch, tarnish after a while??

I would wait because I know in my heart 16 weeks down the road I would be kicking myself. Each to their own I suppose.

I'd prefer to spend the 600 notes on a pedigree dachshund and a dog cage.

I like the non-metallic black. A good polish and it looks great.

Can't believe a car doesn't come with that as standard. I'd def wait, or look at a different make.

Is there any car it comes as standard? I haven't bought many cars but the five I have its always been 5 to 600 for metallic

Wife has a 07 red fiesta from new and despite never been cared or washed the best i never notice it's not metallic. I used to remember cars being destroyed when they were non metallic but once I was the wee fiesta it looks great! I'd be fairly fussy as well.

Very very few cars have standard metallic paint.

Vw non metallic paint is generally good look at 05/06 golfs etc going around with non metallic paint and they still look perfect and polish up well the same cannot be said for some other manufacturers. Actually the non metallic red and black they have currently are both nice enough. It's the 16 week wait that would put me off more than the money.

I only had to wait four days for my Honda civic Tourer.. Mind you Honda had it in stock.. The difference between a brand that's obviously in much more demand (vw) than one not being bought a lot :)

6 cylinder BMW's come with it as standard. I'm not aware of any other car that does tho.

I think the toyota iQ had metallic/pearlescent paint as standard.

What car are you waiting 16 weeks to get metallic paint on?

Or more to the point, what non metallic colour can you opt for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,100 ✭✭✭noelf

Metallic is a plus when you trade in the car I've had a metallic black united grey and my present golf is night blue my favorite so far I had the Autoglym life shine treatment done before I collected it still looks shiney after 33000 km 16 weeks seems excessive for delivery at that rate I would wait for 152 ..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,522 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

It's a plus, but in most cases you don't get the money back on trade in. White being a good example.

I think the new B8 Passat comes with metallic standard, no extra cost.

    It's €700

Urano grey and pure white are no extra cost as they are non metallic

Urano grey shouldn't exist on them, it's not a great colour at all.

Unless it's Red/Black/White everything else should be metallic.

They used to do a rotten non metallic blue on the corolla/auris called cedar blue.

You'd wonder who makes these decisions

A friend ordered a Highline and it was no extra cost, might be for lesser models like the trendline etc

It's 688 for metallic across the Passat range. He either ordered White or was quoted a price including metallic!

No he didn't order white and he didn't get charged for it, i know that for a fact!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,522 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Did he pay the RRP or what?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,587 ✭✭✭Micky 32

To be honest i thought myself it being odd but he has the whole deal on paper regarding all options. He's adamant that he didn't have to pay it and he's one of those guys who knows where his last pennies are going. Will double check tomorrow.

I'd be shocked if anyone got a bargain new model passat.

The residuals of Golfs are unaffected by non metallic black as it holds quite well as a colour. The one thing with the white is sill stains are quite noticeable.

Maybe get non metallic and go for an after-market paint protection option that will offer some guarantee on fade.

    MK7 golf, 1.6 diesel , DSG, highline .

    Non-Metallic Red ( in stock)
    V
Limestone grey metallic ( order looking like 152 at this stage ) .

The whole point of buying a new car for me is getting exactly what I want. If you are going to buy one someone else specced, buy a nearly new demo and save thousands.

You're going to be looking at it for the next while. Get the colour you like best.

I got non-metallic on my last two cars and haven't noticed any difference compared to metallic in terms of quality. In terms of stone chips and the like a strong colour like red will show them more prominently compared to a lighter colour if that bothers you.

Nice choice, fantastic colour, as a matter of curiosity what were you charged for the dealer extra 'autoglym'

My guess is too much and to a standard below a competent detailer. That is one of the biggest cons going at the moment.

My dads mk7 golf is that colour (although it a van so they are all non metallic) and it's nice but I think if I was going highline Id get the metallic paint. But then it ultimately depends which you prefer and I wouldn't be worried about the red as I've yet to see that red faded or anything once you look after the paint you will have no problems. My 2007 golf is black non metallic and still polishes up perfect.

Personally would always buy metallic. Much higher quality.
