Military Fitness Exam

Is the fitness test truly a fail and you're out? I'm very interested in the Air Corps Apprenticeship but I wouldn't be the fittest of the bunch so would a fail in the fitness be the boot out 100% of the time? Also is there any estimate of when they usually run the fitness exams?
    Cheers! :)

Start doing some training, see what you need, and regardless of how usefull or not just train/practice to pass that or as much better than a pass as you can get to.
Push ups, sit ups and run, but check what the requirements are.
There must be a fitness forum, seek advice when you know what it is you need to pass, and fit that into the timeframe you have available.

Its a pass or fail test.

My advice to you is to start training as soon as possible.

If there is loads of people applying, the Air Corps can be more picky so you need to put in the effort into passing your fitness test.

Fail the fitness test and you're gone. There is no particular time of year for fitness tests. When a recruitment competition opens you apply online on military.ie and you should be called for fitness test within 3-6 weeks. As far as I know the only current competition is for apprentice aircraft technicians. You must be aged between 18 and 23 and there are some educational requirements. Cant post a link on here but you can find it in the careers section on military.ie. Hope this helps

It is my understanding that if you fail the fitness, you have another attempt, usually 2-4 weeks subsequent. Fail that and you're out.

I'm afraid not. British military give you a second attempt but not in Ireland. I thought the same until I failed one in 2012. There are usually that many applicants that they barely have time to get everyone through it once without any retests

This may not apply to the OP's predicament but - for the record - another attempt is allowed for for those applying to the RDF. The test itself is exactly the same as for the PDF but I can't, like I say, confirm if this also applies to the Air Corps.

No offence OP, or anyone who has posted previously, but if you can't pass the Irish Defence Forces entry level fitness tests, then you need to have a serious look at yourself.

All of the test details are online but I'm sure you've already found them if you are really committed to passing the test at all.

Even if you do have issues with your personal fitness, a moderate effort on your part, for the 6-8 weeks prior will see you through the test with flying colours.
