I qualified post primary in Australia in 2001 and after many years travelling, having children etc want to now register in Ireland. I submitted my application for assessment including transcripts and Aust. Dept Education letters and have been asked for the following from the Teaching Council:

Certifed Prescribed text list for each subject/ semester / year!! This is 1998 -2001. Anyway, have emailed Uni and they dont have electronic copies going back that far. Ive alrady paid out E500 to Teaching Council and am terrified i wont get the assessment. Just think its a bit much looking for each text/ journal i ever read in Uni. I have supplied them with course handbook with a description of each subject. Have i any hope?

I feel my blood pressure rising as I read your post, abra1. Let's just say it brings back suppressed memories.
For me it was my degree completed >15 years ago. I got onto the phone at my old Uni and got a person who agreed to print off the course descriptions I had, stamp them with a university stamp (that was what they meant by certified) and post them back to me. A total pain.
Is your degree in something straightforward that is the exact equivalent of a degree on the TC list? What are your subjects?

Thanks, see I have provided certified transcript and certified course description but now they want list of text and authors
Studied. That would be a course outline but not available in archives pre 2006.

I guess I'm wondering how flexible the TC are?
My degree is arts/education major in history & english. Combined 4 years degree

My experience was that the TC was completely inflexible. I needed to provide actual timetables for each semester from a degree I had finished several years previously in an Irish university but the university didn't have any such records. They ended up contacting retired lecturers and past students to see if anyone happened to have copies hidden away anywhere and eventually (it took over a year) all the information was obtained. I was so grateful to the course director for all their help and realised how lucky I was that they had gone to such trouble. The TC would accept nothing else.

Another woman I know flew to Italy to try get proof of a year spent in an Italian university in the 1970s. I think she gave up in the end as she couldn't satisfy the TC.

I did my PGCE in UK, teaching council were a nightmare to deal with- ridiculous amount of detail needed, huge amount of money too, it's a bit ironic considering so many teachers who have been in schools a long time were never even garda vetted never mind their qualifications being checked. Good luck with them I hope you get sorted.
