    Hello folks,

I'm sure this thread has been done again and again but i need some help.

Mrs. h3000 is looking to get her first smart phone. She is not looking for something super powerful just basically looking to have the option to run the likes of Whatsapp and Viber, she would not be a big app user other than those.

I am considering the Moto G 5" but I'm a little concerned about the camera quality. There is a new arrival in the house that must be photographed... lots.

Do you think that the Moto G 5" is still the best option or can you recommend any alternatives.

    I've a budget up to about €250

    Thanks for any help,
    h3000

HTC desire 620? 5" 720p screen with the newer snapdragon 64bit 410 chipset. €229 in meteor. 5mp front and 8mp rear camera. I had a play with this and it was a lovely device.

Also Huawei ascend G7 based on 64 bit chipset to is €259 in meteor and has a 5.5" 720p screen with 2gb ram, 13mp camera. Not bad at all....

Get an unlock code on eBay for a few euro...

Moto g all versions are based on old hardware 'snapdragon 400'. There are better phones out there for similar money. I have a moto G 5" and I'm not gonna recommend it unfortunately. Its had its day until Motorola give it a decent update.

I'm not a heavy/dedicated phone user, but I have a Moto G5" and I'm not blown away by it. Performance can be laggy and I have media playback problems.

Xiaomi Mi3 is a great phone for around that if you'd go the Chinese route. I've been using one for the past two months and I couldn't be happier with it.

2gb RAM, 16gb memory, I can get 2 days from the battery easily, 1080p 5" screen

€238 from this seller with DHL (3-8 days delivery) and if you ask him to mark it down there won't be a customs charge

Pretty sure they are getting a handle on how much they were losing relating to customs.

If caught they well ask for proof of purchase, e.g. Invoice or PayPal evidence.

My wife uses the original Moto G and takes about three hundred thousand pictures of our ten month old child every day, camera quality is grand for stuff like that - for actual real memories from things like parties, first day at creche or whatever you might be better off with a better quality phone or an actual camera, but for day to day stuff the Moto G is ok.

I have a Oneplus One and the camera is significantly better, so I take some of the more "important" photos.

Redmi 2 can be gotten from here from about €200 then, not as highly specced as the Mi3 but it matches everything else mentioned in the thread. No customs either

The camera quality would not be the end of the world, it would just be nice to have something decent for those spontaneous moments. I have a decent DSLR for the important shots.

    Thanks for your help.

Seen the ZTE Blade S6 pop up on HUKD, spec looks brilliant for the price, octa core snapdragon 2Gb RAM, expandable storage, Sony 13Mp camera, oh and Lollipop, well worth a look at £169 on Amazon

Heres and honest review albeit a pre-production unit.
