Looking to get a Go Pro Hero as part of my schools, Cycle Against Suicide School spins. It would be for making up a School Video.

Wiggle seems to be best value at the moment for it @ €132.

Is the helmet mounting good enough or is it heavy? Would I be better off getting one of these

Also, if anyone suggests any other kind that is similar in quality. The budget is €200 really for everything.

Had this in another post but thought starting a new one would help :) Thanks.

I have the helmet mount and the handlebar mount.

I prefer the handlebar mount. After a couple of hours with camera on my head, I could start to feel the extra weight. I haven't used it since I got the handlebar one.

Felt a bit daft with a camera stuck to my head too.

I guess the poor sterling/dollar rates are affecting prices. Bought mine for 125 in Harvey Norman the day they came out
Good cameras, can be a bit finicky at times.

The trouble with the handlebar mounts is really shaky video. If you plan on actually using the footage to make a video, it may make it unusable.

    €125 on MyCycle.ie + P&P?

    Or if you're near a Currys/PC World, they're €129

Top Tip: Reduce the video frame rate (25fps works well) ..help's reduce shaky video.

    I use the K-edge Handlebar mount...solid as a rock!

for some of the alternatives have a look at this guys channel techmoan he gives reviews of some of the other cameras available.
I needed/wanted a small video camera and went with sjcam4000
which is pretty good as long as you do not need good sound quality and it comes with loads of fittings.

at the time I wanted this one because it has a microphone port but I could not find it anywhere

Sony AS100V seems like a good camera too.

Yeah I spotted that Conns cameras had upped their prices by €50 on Hero 4 Silver and Blacks in response to currency issues.

On the handle bar mounts, the genuine plastic one isn't great but there are 3rd party aluminium ones that is really good and solid.

It's so close in price to the GoPro, I'd stick with the GoPro. There's some terrible quality action cams out there claiming to be HD.

Don't get that k edge mount it's a rip off you'll pick up a handlebar mount on Ali express for €5 they're just as good as the k edge.

I have a BNIB Polaroid XS100i for sale if you're interested. Was an unwanted Christmas present as I already have the Shimano CM-1000 and prefer it. I only unboxed the Polaroid to test it out and see what it was like. Great quality video and sound and the unit is waterproof without the need for an extra case, unlike the GoPro. Note that it is the WiFi Extreme Edition. I'm looking for €160 for it ONO. I'll also throw in a memory card as one isn't included. Let me know if you're interested. I'm based in Stillorgan.

I watched some very good (if you will) MTB crash videos (was a blooper reel collection of sorts) yesterday evening, and a lot of the guys involved all seemed to have helmet mounted (of some sort or other) cams; video was not shakey, apart from the "hello ground-sky-ground-sky-ground-tree" moments. So might be a consideration?

Would be interested, but only snag is id need a receipt for putting through. So am unsure if I could go down that route.

Mounting an object designed to withstand considerable force to a helmet designed to break under same at the top of your head seems like a bad plan to me. Worth remembering the helmet mounted GoPro has been cited as a considerable factor in Schumachers head injuries.

That wasn't backed up by any data or proof, the story started when Schumachers son made a quote to a French journalist and all the other press jumped on it.

Ah right. Well I could always issue you with a receipt of sale? It is a transaction after all. You could also use Paypal as a payment method and that would issue a receipt of sorts. Or I could probably try get the original one for you? Sure it'll be here for the foreseeable future if you want it, or anyone else for that matter!

Your price is too high. Cheaper new:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Polaroid-XS100i-Waterproof-Mounting-Included/dp/B00F46UQ4K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424348397&sr=8-1&keywords=XS100i

I would still go for the GoPro, it's cheaper and you only need a couple of mounts, so you'll be grand.

It's BNIB and 5 quid off at the current exchange rate plus mine comes with a memory card so I'd say my asking price is fairly spot on. Naturally there's wiggle room with 'ONO' too.

Comes with all mounts in original box, including both helmet and handlebar/stem mounts. I guess it all depends on the quality of the video you're after. Quality is very good, and waterproof with sound would make it a winner in my book, but then again I am trying to sell the thing :P

I'd imagine op would need a Vat receipt also he'd get a warranty if purchased new.

Im pretty sure gopro are suing the source of that so you may want rephrase.

Assessing how shaky footage will be you have to think about a few things:
    - How shaky the thing you mount on is. Lose fitting helmet with a weight attached will shake a lot when you move. Tight fitting helmet may hurt your head.
    - Get a spanner for tightening the screws on the gopro mounts
    - Higher frame rates are less choppy looking
    - Shooting at a wide angle will reduce noticeable shake (ie don't use anything but wide or super wide on a gopro)
    - Having something fixed in the video reduces perceived shake (part of the helmet, part of the bike etc)
    - A lot of the good looking videos use some digital stabilisation in post production

Yeah, when its not for my own fun and personal use :(:(:( ill need the Receipt for it. Curry's possibly anyway, K-edge or similar mount plus possibly a helmet mount, but I might try the K Edge first. :)

MTB riders wear hardshell Helmets and the camera mounts are bolted/ glued to them.

the OP is doing the Cycle for suicide event, so I'm assuming he'll be wearing a light weight vented road bike helmet. The camera will have to be strapped to this helmet which will result in very shaky footage. A handlebar mount is the way to go.

If by "hardshell", you mean full-face then yes, some of the footage was of guys wearing full-face helmets and/or neck-braces. Other footage was just normal helmets; no more different than mine which wouldn't be much more of a stretch over what you might find strapped to the head of a road-cyclist.

I was down in Harvey Norman in Rathfarnham and the entry level gopros were marked as being 124.99. They had two on the display. Good price these days!
