Petrol Audi 1.4 TFSI trade-in value

Is a 1.4 petrol engine small enough to have reasonable trade-in value as opposed to say, a 2.0 ltr petrol?

I have a petrol 1.4 tfsi Audi A3 Saloon and I'm hoping to trade up next year.

I don't expect it to be worth the same as a 2.0 diesel, and I'm hoping to get a new petrol Audi A4 again in 2016 if trade-in offer is reasonable.

I hear bigger-engined petrol cars (1.8 & 2.0ltr) are difficult to sell on but I'm hoping a 1.4 petrol is still a reasonable good trade-in.

    Learned opinions appreciated.

A 1.4 litre petrol car with low tax will still be appealing to some people who do not do alot of driving. It will be alot more appealing than a 2.0 litre petrol as people who don't do alot of driving will just not see the value or necessity in the extra running costs of the 2.0 litre.

I recently traded in a 1.4TSI DSG Passat... it was a pain.
Every dealer I went to asked the same thing.. "Why didn't you buy the diesel?"

I traded it in and got a fair price in the end but it involved a lot of shopping around and a lot of low ball offers. It almost kills me to say it but.. just get the 1.6TDI for again, it is easier.

If you want petrol get petrol, trade on value will matter little unless you are buying new every few years. The appeal of diesel for low mileage drivers is dropping and they are switching back to petrol to avoid dpf failures.

I'd think the 2.0 with has GTI performance would be worth a significant premium, however I dont think the op should worry about the 1.4 petrol from a trade in perspective - average drivers are slowing coming back to petrols, and the 1.4t is a great engine with good economy - overall a better bet that the 1.6 diesel for most average drivers

How many 2.0 litre TFSi A3s did Audi sell in Ireland though, very little if any. It isn't even available here any more. Also the largest petrol A3 available, the 1.8 TFSi costs nearly the same as an entry level Golf GTi If I want the performance of a GTi then I'd just buy the GTi whether it be new or used.

In the 400 odd A3s sold so far this year theres roughly a 10% diesel mix - mainly 1.4TFSIs - almost all sold through the Dublin dealers. Going to dublin dealers when you trade in again will help. Buying on PCP fixes guaranteed future value which removes resale anxiety.
