As the title says, which of these is the best investment. Just for general work.

    1. A middlin' big van
    2. A good small van

    Any comments welcome.

Buy both and keep the small van in the big van and call it The Shuttle Craft.

    What do you work at?

A car van is prob ok for you unless you're carrying big stuff.

And call the big one the enterprise, and set up a company called trekking cleaners and have a slogan saying "to boldly go where no man has gone before"

Big Van. You can't carry a few plaster slabs in a small Van.

    Van Morrison.

To ensure it doesn't get broken into, park it on the bright side of the road...

When we were sub contracting my dad had a vw caddy while i had an opel vivaro and the bigger van was much handier at times and the running costs are practically the same.
As stated above plaster slabs in the bigger van also i could carry full lengths of steel or wavin pipes on the roof rack.

Get a small big van. That way you'll have the best of both worlds. You'll think you have a big van but you'll actually have a small van.

    Vans.

    I like vans.

    Not the shoe.

It depends what you want to carry. If you want to carry lengths of waven a small van probably won't do. If you're just moving boxes a berlingo is a great little van.

Don't get an Opel, they've terrible turning circles. It's hard to beat a transit, they can eat through some parts, but parts are easy to come by and it's a popular van so they can be got cheap.

Mercs can put up big millage but they can be a bit temperamental and expensive in their own ways.

    Middling big.

You will spend the rest of your days cursing the lack of space if you go for the small one.

After all the comments, and thinking over it all day and much soul searching. ............. I have made my decision.

I now think that a middlin' Big van is better than a good small van.

Bigger the better. You can fit small stuff into a big van, but you can't fit big stuff into a small van. Small is for cissies.
