plumbing and insurance?

I've had a leak this evening through the ceiling - could be heating or shower as both were on at the time. It came right down through the light fixture. The leak has now stopped but I think whoever fixes it may have to take up the floor boards to sort out the problem. I had noticed I had to top up the boiler a lot over the last two weeks so that could be part of it. I've been on to my plumber and he will come tomorrow evening.
I'm thinking of going through my house insurance as I'm broke - do I contact insurance before the plumber comes or after he says what he thinks it's caused by?
    Thanks

Read the policy v carefully because many of them exclude water damage if is due to lack of maintenance or laziness by owner, say u had a seep in your shower over several weeks and did nothing, they will not cover.
If ur cold water tank bust and the house got flooded, they will pay.
Also check this before u call them because they will log the call and if thry refuse it still gets marked up against you.
Also u may lose ur no claims bonus so needs thinking about

“I can’t pay my staff or mortgage with instagram likes”.

also you usually have to pay the first few hundred Euro yourself. I'm guessing that the excess will be more than the plumber charges. Definitely look at the policy first. Fingers crossed its a small job.

Thanks , plenty to think about so. So is it to meet the plumber first, decide what kind of job it is and then phone insurance??

Also I better have a good look at my policy - I've never claimed anything ever in my life, I don't know if that makes a difference?
