I'm involved in a local community group and we were examining the feasibility of organising a film club in our community centre and holding dvd screenings. Someone raised the issue of copyright and indicated we would not be allowed by the management company to use the premises unless we were within copyright regulations. I did a little investigation and it seems we'd need an umbrella license to do this from www.mplc.ie, which is a non-commercial license for screenings outside a domestic home. They don't have a price list on their website - you have to contact them for a quote which I haven't done yet.

Has anyone faced this issue and do you have a rough figure for the cost? Our group's funds are very limited so I fear this will be a non-runner :(

thanks but I don't think that's for an umbrella license where you don't have to report the films you show, that's for screenings of an individual film?

    Maybe contact Access Cinema: http://www.accesscinema.ie/

They have a role in organising a lot of regional film clubs and screenings, so they might be able to help you out.

You could get in touch with Access Cinema.

They oversee a network of local film societies throughout the country.

Am I reading that right? €100 for each time you show a title to between 1-200 people?

I suppose having a "donation" bucket or something along those lines could possibly get some costs covered.

Echoing others,if it's going to be a regular thing,Access Cinema is your best bet and,as the name suggests, you'll be able to get a lot of newer films through them too.
