Can garda ANPR cameras check speed?
If so, do they have to pull you over or send it out in the post?
I'd say I wasn't speeding, but I didn't see the car till the last minute, could've been 2 or 3 kms over :/

2 or 3 Kms over, under normal driving conditions would surely be thrown out of court if appealed

    You sure? In all circumstances?

With all speeding offences, don't they allow a tolerance of 10% over the limit? i.e. 87/88 in an 80 zone, they'd let you walk, 89 and their doing you? and so on.... 50 (55), 60 (66) 120 (132).

Maybe I'm thinking about speed camera setting then? are they set 10% over?

Kind of an unwritten rule, saves court time as they would be thrown out for a few km over limit

I have heard of tolerences, but think it was a lot less than that. In terms of the OP if his speedo was read reading 2-3 kph over the spead limit, i'd say he's pretty safe. Some can read around 5kph over the actual speed you are doing due to calibration set up.

Two years ago got speeding ticket and points for doing 58 in zone 50 on Conyngham road. Not sure the court would be in my favour.

Was it a car or a van that caught you?

That would have been the van, regular spot for shooting fish in a barrel - over the 10 percent, actually closer to 20

I got flashed there one time and got no ticket, was doin bout 55

Also got a ticket there for close to 60

The van often hides among parked cars on the LHS past the bus depot on the way out of city. Caught me once after picking her indoors up from the station as my concentration was off as she was complaining about the rail journey. ..61 in a 50

I always take care what speed I drive there now but some drivers are on my back bumper pushing to go faster (very annoying).

Yeah I get tha tailgaters aswel when I am passing by that van there, I can see it as I approach yet the cars are literally touching my back bumper trying to get me to drive faster!

For the sake of clarity, ANPR and the Garda Vans are not, on the face of things, the same or interchangeable.

    Yep.

ANPR would imply that they've video equipment and speed recording equipment. So a fine in the post to the registered owner is not entirely out of the question. If it was stationary then there's no chance.
