    Hi,
A friend spilled water on his dell inspiron n5010 laptop and its completely dead.
He tried to power it back on straight after the spillage and didnt really try to dry it out until a few days later.

He asked me to take a look at it so I have taken it apart.
I can see some brown stains on the back of the keyboard (dried in water or something like that)
I got a multimeter and checked the motherboard and nothing.
    Power supply is fine.

My question is, if I get a replacement motherboard will that do the trick.
I was reading about power boards (there seems to be a smaller board at the top of the laptop seperate to the MB.
If the power board is the problem would replacing that do the trick.
I tried the multimter on the power board (assuming it is a power board) and nothing so its hard to know which board is fried.

    I hope this makes sense.
    Any suggestions advice greatly appreciated.
    Sham.

You've no idea whats damaged really, clean everything with Isopropyl alcohol, re-assemble and test boot it, if it works great, if not bin it. Not worth buying a new mobo just to find 3 other components are also f'cked.

Him trying to power it back on straight away was a really excellent move, reduces the odds of it surviving significantly.
