Has anyone on here bought a car recently from Capital Motors on Old Naas Road.

They seem to have a few decent looking cars and I am thinking of taking a look.
just wondering if they are a reputable outfit or if anyone has any horror stories!!!

    Cheers

Was just going to post the same question as I'm interested in a car or two there and want to buy in the next couple of months. Any advice on them would be greatly appreciated.

This was the only thread I could find and it is from 2013, also seemed to descend rapidly into abuse!

    Anyone have any recent experience.

Are Capital motors the same people at the universal motor group/Southside autos?? Was this place Capital motors before being Southside or Universal and is now Capital again...??:confused:

theyve been there since 2012-2013. they seem to import a lot of stock. i checked out a car with them, but the sale fell through. they were happy for me to take the car to my mechanic at the time, but sold it without letting me know they were while i was waiting for them to tell me if they would repair the things needed.

make of that as you will.

That's enough to put me off. A level of decency should be a basic requirement and if that's the way they treat people I won't be going there.

The only thing I worry about really is the long term comeback if you have a problem with the car. They don't seem like they want to strike up any long term relationships with customers as then they would have to give a good level of after sales service to someone they actually know a bit.

    Thanks for the info.

I think I will call in and look at the car anyway, (just to get a look at the actual model/spec that I'm looking for)
I can go and find another one someplace else then if these guys are not 100% legit.

    What car model is it?

Perhaps someone might tell you what to look out for.

That is very low mileage for a 6 year old example of a car that is very popular as a rep mobile. I'd be scrutinizing the service history on that car.

Looks like most of cars coming from UK Car auctions like BCA. Maybe I am wrong.

Very low miles for such a big car. Most Insignia's would have much more miles on them. I would definitely be requesting a full service history.

Then again, it could be a 100% legit car, maybe it was doing less than 10,000 miles a year (average)

Didn't you just buy a car that now needs a clutch and turbo doing?

I never bought that car in the end! I took a day or two to think about it but in the time I took to think about it the car was sold. They seem to be selling a lot of cars so they can't be too bad. If they have another car I like for sale in just going to buy it and if I'm messed around (if the car sarts falling a part) I'll just bring them to court ;)

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply......wanted to get our sale sorted before I said anythjng. We bought from Capital Motors at the start of April, a 2008 9 seater Renault Trafic. The sale turned into a bit of a nightmare. Received the log book ten days after the purchase only to find out that the vehicle was registered as a 13 seater (I was given a copy of the log book prior to the sale but failed to notice the seat numbers). Did some investigating and somewhere along the line of owners and garages someone took out 4 seats and never completed the necessary VRT conversion forms or paid the tax due. As the new owner of the vehicle I was now liable for the VRT regardless of who changed the seating in the vehicle. From day one of finding out this information, Billy Palmer of Capital Motors assured me that he would take care of this mess. After months of fighting with the Department of Transport over who was liable, etc. we were finally issued with a bill of €3600 and told to pay or the vehicle would be seized. True to his word, Billy has so far given us €3,050 to put towards the VRT. The rest will be following shortly. He could have been an ass and told us to go take a run and jump but he didn't and I very grateful for that.

Now, the clutch did go in the vehicle and he would not cover that under his warranty but not a lot of dealerships will cover a clutch. We had thought that the turbo went but turns out it was a sensor in the accelerator and he has agreed to cover that cost, having our mechanic do the work rather than bringing it back up to Dublin.

All in all, the last few months have been very stressful and a total nightmare but Billy did good by us in the end and I can finally dive this vehicle without the worry that customs will be seizing it at any moment......
