Part 1 -Return of The Killing (Part 1) – “I was hung up on them three letters”

    chrisfields_sbgyellow.jpg
“I’ve been off for awhile as you know, but during that downtime I really fell in love with the sport again,” said Fields. “There were thoughts of quitting for some of that time, but then I kind of said to myself that I would comeback and I’d make sure that I did everything right.

“I just didn’t know what the next step was. A of people, including me, put a lot of stress on themselves to get into the UFC – that’s it – it’s your be all and end all. It’s not though, and now I feel like I’m back doing it for pure reasons. For a long time I was hung up on them three letters.

“A lot of people would tell you, Cathal and Laura (Fields’ wife), there would be a lot of ‘after this fight’ and I wasn’t really living in the moment. It’s such a cool thing that we get to do. People have to work their asses off to provide for their families, I think it’s very honourable what they do, but I really get to do something I love everyday.

Part 2 - Return of the Killing (Part 2) – PEDs, SBG, McGregor, Coaching, Kone and Clauses

    chrisandcathal.jpg
“I remember being in the TD Garden there a few weeks back and usually they have a place for us to sit and watch the fights. This time, the place was so packed there was nowhere for us to sit.

“As for Conor’s performance, I think it’s the first time I’ve ever said ‘wow’, watching one of my teammates. It was like an Anderson Silva type performance. He looked phenomenal.

“Then Joe Rogan gets into the cage and starts asking him how it feels to be fighting for a title. Until then, it never dawned on me how big this really was. I just turned to Cathal straight away and said, ‘this is surreal’.

“A guy from our gym is going to be fighting for a UFC title in a few months. We’re a little island and we’re only doing this a little while at that level. Ais, me, Cathal, Conor, Paddy and Roddy before all of us, we were the first ones to go out and do it a high level. Now one of us is going for a title,” he exclaimed.

It's a shame that an injury hampered Fields on TUF. Came across well anyway and have been waiting for him to get back into action for a while.

    His leg kicks are vicious.

Fair play to Fields, he got some stick on TUF but it's nice to see him come back fighting again.

Good to see SevereMMA stepping up covering wider mma reportage even further.

I only seen him on TUF and he didn't look great but didn't see enough of him
So how good is Fields ?

He has some great kicks and is pretty dangerous on the ground.
I always thought he was mostly a striker, based on the reputation of his kicks I suppose. But I got the chance to train with him a bit at Christmas and it was mostly his ground game that stood out that day.

All we need now is Roddy to come back as well. I would love that.

His missus told me at a cage warriors event he's always threatening to comeback but hard to know if hes saying it in jest. Exciting fighter and id like to see him back too but i think he achieved a lot already and probably got out at the right time. Hes also probably too involved with coaching to commit as the coaching is meant to be going well.

    It'll never, ever happen.

He hopped in for a bit of sparring a week or so ago and got a nice cut for his troubles haha.

He's mad busy with coaching full time now - he runs the Growing Gorilla's kids & teens programmes at SBG as well as his own club in Ballymun, Primal MMA.

They have the worst ring announcer I've ever seen in this. An British guy who announces everything in an attempted American accent and he's so nervous his voice is shaking and he's stuttering all his lines :pac:

How can I actually watch this? On their FB page and there's no link. Awful set-up unless I'm just missing something obvious.

EDIT: Never mind, their FB is awful. Here's a couple links to live streams:

Chris rock is doing a terrible job as fight announcer.
    Feel bad for Chris fields

Very quick devasting KO there, chris was completely out of it. Ref did a good job there (actually not sure if he did now, kind of half waved it off before stopping it)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,443 ✭✭✭califano

All that conditioning for nowt. What was the ref doing, either your moving in to stop or you arent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 205 ✭✭johnpro

    Balls :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 205 ✭✭johnpro

Can't have any complaints about the stoppage. He got caught, it happens. He looked ok when he got dropped but then when that hammer fist came down and the follow up, the ref was right to step in and prevent unnecessary damage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,968 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Ah shyte, that was some power he was hit with. Yeah, i thought wtf he went back for 2 hammer fists after the ref stopped but then realised he hadnt. Unlucky Chris :(

Unlucky there for Chris, everyone gets caught eventually. Hopefully see him in fight again in about 6 months.
Always feel fighters come back too early from KO's like that. Give the brain time to heal.

He looked way out of his depth on TUF in fairness, best of luck to him in the future I'm sure he will come back and have another crack at it

The production quality on the BAMMA stream was terrible. I think I watched the two commentators introduce the card three times, and all the huge pauses in between things happening just wrecked the buzz. I'll continue to watch Chris' fights in BAMMA but I won't be watching the entire cards again.
