Getting an increase in price, line is maxed at 6mbps, any good deals out there?

    Dear Customer,

We are writing to inform you of some changes to your Vodafone Home service, that will come into effect on 1 April.

Due to increased operational costs your monthly payment for your broadband and landline plan will increase by €5 to € 52.5 and this will be reflected in any bills issued after 1 April 2015.

As a result of these changes, you may change or cancel your contract without penalty within 30 days from the date of this email by dialling 1907.

Ahh so they're all doing it! Thought it was just eircom retail, they were just first to get it over and done with.

Basic plan, the Simply Broadband package, will go up by €3 to €38 a month. But the company says it is providing an unlimited data allowance on the Simply Broadband offering, which includes calls.

This bit makes no sense. Simply Broadband doesn't include a phone line and thus you can't make calls on it.

Unless they plan on introducing a VoIP service on it.

I assume they mean that they are getting rid of the stupid 300GB cap. At least some good news.
Vodafone Ireland is planning a new TV service that aims to go head-to-head with UPC, Sky and Eircom in Ireland.

The mobile provider has held discussions with several industry players, including Sky, and trials begin before the summer.

And a little more good news. I've been expecting this. I assume it will be a IPTV service similar to Eircom eVision. Though hopefully better.

If anyones knows or finds out what the Home Essentials currently €45pm is going to be will you post it here - I was thinking of moving from Eircom over to Vodafone for this package as Eircoms prices are increasing soon but there won't be any point if Vodafone are going to increase that package also

Got this letter today, but Vodafone €52.50 are still working out cheaper for me with Unlimited Calls, Broadband and International Calls. Sky are €57.50 and Eircom are €58. Very little difference between them all really.

That is because they are all just reselling the same underlying Eircom wholesale product. I assume all these price increases are a result in price increases by Eircom wholesale.

And simply broadband started out at €32 and was originally truly unlimited! So a 19% price increase in just 2 years!

However is it really unlimited now? I've seen no confirmation of that anywhere.

The Vodafone rep over on their Talk To forum claims they're doing away with it.

None of the price changes are on their website however.

It was stupidly cheap at €32 though. They were buying market share.

Home extra is the "plan" I am on at present. so unlimited broadband, local and national calls. + 30 mins I think mobile. We are getting €5 off at the moment for 12 months for signing up to an 18 month contract, that was about 8 months ago I believe. Speeds are crap here due to located 20 mins away from the nearest fibre connection. Cant see it coming here for quite some time so I think we are stuck with about 5/6mb at the most. 4g wont be reliable here due to the hills

Can you get Sky Broadband without having any Sky TV package, cos no way I'm ever paying for that again.

As usual with Vodafone its utterly confusing and very poorly communicated.

I seem to fall into the price increase category with my legacy Fibre package currently costing €47.50 per month but as yet have heard nothing about it.

One thing, at least they have finally decided to get rid of the ludicrous cap that they had and which caused no end of confusion to both customers and their employees I`m sure too. It was a farce.

Anyone know whether the cap has really gone?

The fair use policy of 300GB will be removed from all broadband plans.

Nothing updated on their site however.

Eircom charge €17.50 for standalone nga broadband and usage charges have dropped significantly over the years so not sure that is the reason.

    @dalta5billion - there's more info linked here.
Just to note, the FAQs say:
From March 1st there will be changes to the Vodafone at Home product range ...The fair use policy of 300GB will be removed from all broadband plans.

So you won't see any changes on the website until this date.

    Thanks,

One thing to note the correspondence came in via email. I can't remember if it even came by post, check your emails folk

@efb - the correspondence is going out in batches, so if you're affected by the adjustment, you'll get something soon.

How can Vodafone break their contracts with its customers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,026 ✭✭✭✭adox

I got the email finally yesterday with a €5 increase, so my package is going from €47.50 to €52.50.

I`ve had a quick look online this morning for a cheaper alternative for the same product and everywhere else seems more expensive, even with the Vodafone increase.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,430 ✭✭✭positron

Got my mail from Vodafone today saying my fibre broadband (no talk/calls) is going up from €35 to €38, and Vodafone has now presented me with the opportunity to break the 18 months contract approximately six months early.

I am curious about Sky Fibre's better looking modem that will sit better in my living room (than Vodafone white board of flashing lights), but at the same time I am happy with Vodafone service (minimal interaction, online billing) and crucially the network speed (I am getting about 25 mbps).

Cost-wise most of the offerings are pretty much the same, however what I am really hoping for is the ESB/Vodafone FTTH to come to Drogheda. If Vodaone reps or anyone else could put some sort of timeline to when that could happen, I would at least know where I stand (might continue with Vodafone anyway).

I'm going up to 38 which should mean with my €3 discount I'm going up yo 35- that's fine

They are entitled to change their charges, but must give you 30 days to withdraw from the contract. This is exactly what they are doing as are Eircom with their customers.

While I haven't read the specific Vodafone contract and IANAL, almost all ISP contracts have a clause in them saying they have a right to break or cancel a contract at anytime.

However by breaking the contract and changing the terms, you can now reject the new contracts terms and move to another company.

I suspect if you were to persue it in court, that such a clause might not actually stand up. However given the relatively low value of the contract and the fact they have given you an out, it just wouldn't be worth it.
