Hope to be in the North Island for a week in July. Any recommendations on where to stay and things to do welcome. Want to do the lord of rings tours so which is best? Thinking of staying in Auckland for week and maybe hire car or do trips from there.

I'm not sure that day trips are quite as easy you think; NZ is bigger than many tourists think, and for an example, a drive from Auckland to Hamilton is 2hrs.

For a week, start in Auckland, travel down to Waitomo, do your LOTR tour, head to Rotorua, then Tauranga, then back to Auckland. Try and get out to Waiheke if you can.

Are you driving in reverse? I would make it, every other month, from North Shore (Akl) to Hamilton in an hour and half. But i agree, NZ is far bigger than you think. Over there, 3 hours isnt a long drive...like here.
I agree with the suggested route aswell.
Defo Waiheke....beautiful place. One of my favs to go to.

Damit, why I come to this forum....makes me wanna go back (Even more!)

    Hey,

Myself and my girlfriend are looking to work and live in New Zealand next year for some bit and do some travelling.

I will be looking for agricultural work and my girlfriend is a doctor.

Anybody have any suggestions where to go? North Island or South Island?

    Thanks!
