I've updated my summary of products/functionality available on LEAP, which brings together all of the information publicly available. I'm doing this due to reading regular questions on boards.ie, and due to the fact that I think that the level of information available on official sites leaves a lot to be desired in terms of collating the information in one simple location.

If you do spot something that needs updating let me know.

I've updated this thread for the additional functionality that has been added recently, including:
    • LEAP 90 rebate introduced on multi-mode trips within Dublin
    • LEAP epurse now valid on Bus Eireann city services in Limerick
    • LEAP now valid on Ashbourne Connect service 193
    Future developments will include:
    • LEAP epurse to be launched on Cork Suburban Rail services to Cobh and Midleton in Q1 2015
    • LEAP to be accepted on Bus Eireann services in Waterford by mid-2015

Note that the discount does not apply to Airlink or Tour services.

Similarly, if you make a multi-mode journey using one of the combinations below within the Dublin Short Hop Zone, the discounts above will apply to the second and any subsequent trips, provided each individual trip starts within 90 minutes of the previous one.

    =============================================================================== ==========================

    TOPPING UP LEAP CARD E-PURSE

The LEAP card e-purse can be topped up a number of different ways:
    • At one of over 400 Payzone LEAP card agents around Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Galway.
    • At any LUAS ticket machine
    • At any Irish Rail ticket machine in the Short Hop Zone
    • Online at www.leapcard.ie - Note that this option requires you to subsequently visit your nominated "load location" to physically load the top-up amount onto the card. Note that online topups cannot be applied to your LEAP card via Dublin Bus or indeed other bus operator onboard ticket machines due to their memory constraints.
    • Via Auto top-up - this is the easiest way of topping up the card. It automatically tops up your Leap Card with funds from your bank account, whenever your Travel Credit balance falls below €10. You can choose to Auto Top-Up by €30.00, €40.00 or €50.00. Note that this requires your card to be registered on the LEAP website and a direct debit to be set up.
      =============================================================================== ==========================

      SINGLE OPERATOR PERIOD PASSES:
The following unlimited travel period passes / tickets can be loaded onto a LEAP card, either online (requires you to then visit a payzone outlet) or at a payzone outlet directly:

@lxflyer Do you intend on doing monthly updates like this, or maybe as when needed. If so what is the best way to keep updated with your future threads?

I've updated the thread every time that there has been changes to the functionality and I intend keeping to that.

Just watch for the threads here - Victor kindly put this as a sticky.

Irish Rail Point-to-Point Annual/Monthly Taxsaver tickets are now being issued as personalised leap cards.

However they cannot be combined with Dub Bus/Luas Annual Tickets which require a separate Leap card (2015).

All it is, is a ticket. The card can hold 5. Surely instead of 1 combination ticket they could allow someone to order multiple tickets if they need it, for the 1 card.

To get the leap 90 discount, do you have to ask for it from the driver, or can you tag on at the right hand validator twice within the 90 minutes and it applies automatically?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 70 ✭✭Iyaibeji

Thank you so much, so much easier to understand than the website.

You ask for the fare in the normal manner from the driver - €1.50, €2.05 or €2.60 (not that you can get the €2.60 fare from the right hand validator, but only if you don't have a ticket product on the card).

The discount then gets applied by the system automatically.

Interesting to see people being asked to touch FT cards on the RHS validator on Dublin Bus today. Slightly OT for this thread I know.

Welfare website says that free travel card holders with a public services card can now use their card as a leap card at Irish rail stations i.e. they no longer need to get a ticket at a ticket office. it's supposed to be used similarly on the Luas and Dublin Bus

Silly question but why can't you get a day return on bus eireann Dublin greater area?

It's cheaper to pay with cash for day return over leapcard as not always you use the 24 hour service.

That's more so due to how the zones are laid out. if you are closer to the inside of it, as opposed to closer to the outside of it, there's quite a few times when you are better off just paying cash.

Ho long does it take for DB journeys to appear in the online history?
I thought it would be instant, but after 2 journeys today the balance hasn't changed and the auto top is still not active.

The ticket validators on buses can only do downloads when they get back to the garage, so 95-99% of the time you won't see the dedications until the next day. It might happen the same day with a tiny proportion of buses and might take an extra day occasionally when the buses are stored overnight in one of the remote garages - Bray or Skerries..

If I add a 7 day ticket to a leap card online, will it be loaded on the Leap card when I touch it to Bus Eirean validator or do I need to go to a payzone store to have it loaded onto the card?

Unfortunately if you buy online you need to touch a live terminal, which means going to a Payzone agent!

Why not just buy it from the driver?

That will be instantly onto your card.

Does the 5 Euro emergency credit still apply?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Music Moderators, Politics Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 22,360 CMod ✭✭✭✭Dravokivich

Not all 5 euro. Once you go negative, you can't use the credit any more until you top up.

Zero is also considered negative in this sense.

Well. it's nothing. You'd want to have quite a set of transactions to get it to zero as well with the fares having odd digits now.

Question about the Leap90 discount - if you have to go to the driver on Dublin Bus and its your second journey (say after getting off the Luas) - do you state the full fare or the discounted fare?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,283 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

    State the full fare.

The system will apply the discount automatically.

Properly, you are meant to state your destination.

However, the drivers has a selection of buttons they can press for a given distance. Stating a particular fare is complicated, given that here are cash, Leap, adult, child, schoolchild, etc. fares.

Well if you know the fare already I really don't see the issue in stating the fare.

The drivers are not blind and can see that you're putting a LEAP card on the machine.

It's worth publicising that Dublin Bus has installed a Leapcard Reader in the front window of it's HQ,59 O'Connell St.

It can be used to check Leapcard Balances,as a Load Point to collect credit and to enable Taxsaver Collections.

This is a long overdue and very necessary advance for Leapcard, and hopefully will be replicated across the City Centre.
