    HI

I have the test tomorrow morning and was just wondering if having the engine management warning light on will fail the car. Was told by Advance Pitstop mechanic that it would be okay as long is its not the airbag.

    Thanks

Won't fail on it been on but might fail on the reason it's on like if it's recording an emissions fault. Could the guy in Advance not read the fault code to tell you what it was for?

They didn't have time as they were booked up. I'll take my chances. I could get the light cancelled but as you say it's not because it is on that they will fail it.

I am sure it fails if it's on... purely because it's on... it's a newer part of nct test... hold though, I'll search the NCT website and see can I find source.

    Is it petrol or diesel?

If it's petrol "check engine" light won't fail NCT.
    If it's diesel it will.

Not according to the July 2014 manual, they did add to the list of warning lights that will fail but EML is still not one of them. It will lead to refusal to perform the diesel smoke test though.

Not true, my diesel Avensis passed three weeks ago with the engine management light on.

It wasn't mentioned to me at the test center, it came on two days before the test for glow plugs and i didn't have time to change them so chanced it.

@anjobe, does the manual say they must refuse to do emissions on a diesel if EML is on, they tested mine only three weeks ago with the light on, maybe I got lucky but I had never heard of them refusing for EML, that's why i chanced it.

Yep it's page ten of the test manual and no I'm not an nct nerd, the question is asked here so often I looked it up and remembered it

Cheers, strange they never mentioned it when testing mine then, a diesel Avensis with the light on, another example of the rules been enforced inconsistently.

They use to fail for engine light now it won't fail unless a major fault or emissions.

My car passed for 2 years with engine light on as the dual mass fly wheel is on its way out and slipping at times.

My ecu failed before the nct the last time and had to replace before it but it would have passed this time. It set me back a nice bit for a 2nd hand 1.
