Building Heavy Storage Unit

Hi,

I plan to make the most of a utility room. I want to build a storage area, which will hold the washing machine, and above that, the dryer.

Rather than using timber I imagine I would have to use steel framing to hold these in place?

Any advice on this?

Hi there.

Why do you feel you would have to use steel framing for this. A timber frame, properly built, would hold a washer or dryer easily and would likely be less noisy while the washer/dryer is in use.

A good solid 3x2 (or 4x2 depending on width) would do the job fine. I would also be fairly simple to put a couple of MDF doors onto the frame if you wanted to close them in.
