Anyone know anything about laptops here?

I'm looking for one for my brother, he is struggling with a 3 year old netbook that he has running some flavour of Linux just to get some performance out of it. He is in his final year of college and I think his laptop is really slowing him down.

Somewhere around 14" would be preferable. It doesn't have to game but it would be a plus if it could even run something like FTL and things like that.

Budget is not set but I'm thinking somewhere from €600 - €800.

    Any ideas?

Comes out as a wall of text so I Pastebinned it instead.

    Any use?

EDIT: I bumped it up to 8GB RAM and the price is now about €675.

Cant help unfortunately, but if you could give some feedback on the chassis itself when you get it would be appreciated! Hard to get reviews as regards build quality of the laptops on there!

I find the hp pavilion versions are very good get one for €500 roughly. Depends what you looking for. Windows 8 and 8.1 are popular os depending which os you want as well. Check out the specs for best value for what you can get. Comparing some of them could have 1tb of hardrive compared to less amount. At the moment the majority have 8gb of ram. Netbooks can only last so long. Toshiba and acer are other suggested laptop models i'd recommend.

Remember reading big complaints of the build quality of the chasis for one of the UK made to order services, but Im not sure who it was.

Lenovo with the 15% student discounts come out with a fair enough price.
