Fan to take smoke out of kitchen

The extractor fan in our house is on the inside wall, so it’s not piped to take out smoke, just odours and grease I think (not really sure if that’s what it’s meant to do!).

Is there any other kind of fan that can be put on the outside wall to try and take out smoke from the kitchen?

Do you mean the cooker hood, if so many of them will have fittings that will take a flexible duct that can be connected to an external vent.

Apparently at the time our builder tried, but wasn't able to do it. Was he spoofing? Should it be an easy enough job?

I retrofitted a duct to our hood after finding that the kitchen used to steam up too much.

Not a simple job as the duct needed to go into the ceiling space out to an external wall, depends on your structure it could be difficult.
