Springer / Pointer Dog ?

    Lads are any of ye hunting with a springer /pointer dog?
    I have been offered one about 1 year old & I am told that he is already hunting and doing retrives.
    Just looking for your experiances ?

    Had one many years ago,springer dog x pointer bitch,excellent animal to hunt and retrieve,he would even point.Sadly killed by a car in his prime.

    Had springer by german pointer sadly lost him 2 years ago never had a dog like him would hunt like springer but would point birds for you great dog to retrieve off land and water .Some people say you only get one great dog in your lifetime well he was it.

    Just go have a look at him cant hurt, ask for every test possible just to make sure your not being sold a pup , excuse the pun.

    Unless the owner is unable to look after him anymore ,the only dogs you hear given away are ones that are no good , shoot a rabbit and bring it with you and see what the retrieves are like , he could hunt well and have good manners but have a gin trap of a mouth, or you could be lucky and get a good one for noting.

    I should have said from the beginning I know the owners of the springer and pointers, but havent hunted with either of their dogs, they kept a pup each and this lad is a "spare"

    lad here has an english pointer /springer cross she will do everything shes a joy to shoot with but both parents were outstanding animals just an acidental cross 4 pups is all the spring had but all were kept in good shooting homes

    Won't hurt to have a look. They can be very good. Give a few good loud claps when he's out a few yards in front of u. See how the nerves are. Some of the best dogs i had came free.
