    Hi guys,

Looking for some advice in getting a new or used car.

Basically looking for something spacious that has room for bike/roof rack/surf equipment and a toddler etc.

I was thinking a 1.6 that will get me from Dublin to the West in a decent click.

I'm undecided on what model/style and whether I should go new(Scrappage) or used but either way I am not looking to break the bank.

Any ideas of what would best suit?

Why are you limiting yourself to 1.6 especially if buying new, as motor tax is based on emissions now rather than engine size.

Why not ring your insurance company and find out what the cost would be? Then you can make a decided if you should limit yourself or not. I would start by getting quotes on the estate

Ok I have narrowed down my search slightly and I think I am going to get a used car circa 2011 onwards. Still not sure whether to go Estate or SUV. From what I have seen only really 2/3k difference between the two. Also would like the higher driving position and more space option so I am leaning SUV.

Which would be best in class from the options below. Models and engines size vary obviously but just looking for general feel for the different makes.

    Estates
    Renault Megane
    Skoda Octavia
    VW Passat
    Kia Ceed
    Dacia Logan??

    SUV
    Kia Sportage
    Mit ASX
    Hyundai ix35
    Nissan Qashai
    Skoda Yeti

Ok I have settled on either a 2010+ Nissan Qashqai or 2010+ Skoda Yeti both diesel.

Any recommendations between the two and what mileage I should try limit my search to?

Here is a long term test review of the yeti over done over 14 months

    http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-reviews/long-term-tests/skoda/skoda-yeti-20-tdi-se-2010-long-term-test-review/

However all the reviews for the Nissan come up just as positive.

If it was me I would go Yeti purely on the basis that I had a skoda that was exceptionally reliable and also there are so many Qashqai on the road it is something different.

Went with the Qashqai N-Tec model very comfortable car to drive, Yeti great car but couldnt find any in the budget.
