Selling a car to trader

I've been trying to sell my car since the start of the year to no avail. Main problem has been potential customers having trouble getting finance for my car being a private sale.
As I've purchased a car from UK I'm keen to get my own moved on and considering selling direct to a trader. Anyone any experience of this? Am I better off just hanging on for the "right one" to come along?

What sort of car is it and it's value? Advert link?

Selling to a dealer will mean that you will not get offered a great price on it either. Really depends on how desperate you are in need for the cash though.

    As I have a low post count I can't ad a link,it appears.
    It's a 2012 golf GTD 3dr. Value around 23k.
The ad is on done deal. The only 2012 GTD for sale in Roscommon .

White, 3 Dr and located in Roscommon and RN reg are seriously holding it back compared to the one in Spirit. I'd say a trader would be offering 18. Don't shoot the messenger .

Fair point. However, in this case it's true, and whoever comes to view the car will see my A5 sitting here.

Why would the RN reg be a stumbling block?

Of the interest shown so far finance has been the stumbling block, the reg was never mentioned.

The problem is with selling a car privately of that value. At that price point most buyers will be at least partially paying for it via a loan or finance. Banks will insist on buying from a registered dealer before approving a loan or finance as they have been burnt in the past. Alot of buyers spending this sort of money too prefer to buy from a dealer for the peace of mind and warranty.

You may have to wait a while for a cash buyer looking for that particular car.

Not doubting you, it's just something you see a lot in ads.

No worries, I removed it from the ad anyway. It is a bit of a sickening phrase that's overused.

    Nice car.

    *Sold with 1 years warranty*
Who's the warranty with? Check the terms, as if it's the manufacturer, it may only be valid for the first owner...

    =-=

Also, why does it say "Gttdi Audi A3" at the bottom of the ad?

Nice car alright but have you not priced it slightly high for a '12 car...?
I've been looking round a few VW main dealers for a car something similar to that and your price doesn't seem too far off their prices for similar and newer cars,
I would expect to pay a lot less for a car I bought privately in Roscommon compared to a car I bought in a VW dealership...
Also I would never buy a car of this value off Done Deal, I only use DD when I want to move a car on...

Have you been looking at 2012 GTD's or 1.6tdi's?
I had a guy telling me he could get the identical car as mine for 17 grand. Turned out it was a 1.6tdi R line. A lovely car but very different machine to a GTD.

Isn't that sort of contradicting? Not trusting a seller but expecting a buyer to trust you?

To your average Joe all diesel Golfs are pretty much the same.

I think this is the type of car that a main VAG dealer should be able to get much higher money for than you will selling private- as side from finance which has been well explained, folks spending 20+ grand on a second hand car tend to want some warranty.

The RN plate puts off some buyers but the overall number is good because of the 30. The car is in the popular candy white but the spec looks fairly low - 3 door, basic looking stereo/ cloth/ non met paint/ no sat nav/ no sun roof etc. I think your asking price is what a main dealer would be asking for with your mileage, with the aim to take 1500 less to a cash buyer.

I know these cars were v expensive new, but the competition is not only other GTD's but also other VAG cars - a Seat FR 184bhp 141 would probably be bought for your close to your asking price in a main dealer
