Would appreciate any thought youse have on this car. Looking at bringing in a nice mondeo from the uk. This caught my eye. I know about the logistics, VRT, etc etc, so dont need info about that. I just want an opinion from youse about the car, engine, mileage pitfalls etc etc.

Looks very nice but BIG mileage, although for a car of this age, I believe the claim its motorway miles.

I have asked a few questions

I sent a message about 2011 FORD MONDEO TITANIUM X TDCI 163 BHP NEW SHAPE #221691890231
Has the clutch and timing belt been done? Paperwork for the history? Any bangs? Does absolutely everything work or are there any niggles.
What do you call a serious offer?

    ************

    and this is the reply.

    ************

It was on last week and I was inundated with stupid offers, so make me a decent offer the car will not go for a bargain but cheaper than others on eBay cheapest on eBay for a titanium x in the new shape is £6995 , cam belt hasn't been done not sure on clutch but I don't think so, it has service history up till the last service as it was an Arnold car fleet car so comes with the print out, the car drives exceptional with no noises at all.

    CAR AD LINK

    Cheers all.

Depends what it ends up going for.

Nice looking car ok but big miles. I suppose you have no guarantee how the miles were racked up, whether on motorway or not. If full serrvice hstory can be verified it would be a big help.

Having said that, he has over 1000 feedback and 100% positive. Good spec'd car.

    VRT is approx €2400 btw.

I am trying to look up the engine. It appears it has a timing chain that is good for the life of the engine. But has aux belts. What relevance would that have to the mileage. Its huge for the year.

Someone just pointed out to me its 163 BHP, which suggest a 2.2 engine, but he says it twice, its 1997cc

Its mainly the mileage I am looking at and the consequences. If it goes for 5k, with 2,400 VRT and sterling. You could land it here for 10k

I know the clutch on mondeos is big money.

    The 163ps is a 2.0 engine also.

My thoughts, Lovely Colour, The Mileage wouldnt scare me personally. Id get a full service completed on it prior to me setting off into full driving ownership,

Belts, Water Pump, Fuel Filters Oil Filters. Suspension Check. Disks Pads Check, Brake Fluid flush, perhaps gearbox oil flush too.

In terms of offers, you can only really offer what it goes for on Ebay i suppose. Unless he has a minimum offer setup it goes for what it goes for.

The mileage isn't really that high if it was genuinely up and down motorways in the UK.

And if it was regularly serviced then it might not be that big of an issue.

I have my eye out for one myself (Titanium X 163) from anything I've read there a great car. Personally I'd look for something with a bit less milage but thats just me.

He is talking 6995 for others, so his will be a bit cheaper. That saying, it "sold" to a guy who never turned up for 5200ish.

Can go over to the uk on thursday but the auction runs till thursday night. I need something reliable, that is lower tax, and will give no trouble.

    Don't we all.

No car can guarantee you this.

Oh, and this NEW SHAPE Mondeo is already the OLD SHAPE, there's a new design out.

Do a HPI check prior to bidding to see what it throws up.

Looks ok then. What about service history up to 50k?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,070 ✭✭✭ScouseMouse

What you see there. He says he has a printout from arnold clark.

At 1000 miles a week (at some times), I would hope its motorway miles, unless hes fecking dominos !

How were you able to obtain the previous price it went for, before that bidder ditched out? is that something ebay shows you ?

It was in my watch list. I am looking at a few at the moment.

    Here it is.

Just re-read the original ad. He says he bought it off arnold clark, has it TWO WEEKS and loved it so much, he went and bought a newer, better one.

    Thats just scared me.......

But then the guy does have a perfect feedback of over 1000

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,216 ✭✭✭✭listermint

If it were me, go for it. Looks the part. They can take that mileage so that wouldnt be my concern. Obviously check it all over visually etc yourself.

Good luck! let us know how it pans out.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,070 ✭✭✭ScouseMouse

Its gone to 5 sterling overnight. Add in sterling at 35 in the pound and VRT its looking a lost cause. These auctions tend to heat up in the last five minutes. Will keep an eye on it though.

The mileage wouldn't bother me at all.

Check the service history first, but mileage would be about correct for a sales rep.
One thing you could be sure if you the service history was there it would be done correctly!
If it was a fleet car the history should all be there.

If you go up the thread, you can see a hpi check with mileage included from 50k. Got a couple of determined bidders this time so it could go for a silly price. Will keep an eye on it.

big miles for the age but bigger diesel cars can rack up a lot of miles without a problem. Seems fine to me but I'm no expert.

Another factor, although it sounds strange in a motors thread is Greece!!

The ongoing situation is weakening the Euro on a daily basis and it might be heading for 1.40 (currently around 1.34/1.35). So any Sterling deal is going to cost you more.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,070 ✭✭✭ScouseMouse

Bank just quoted me 6940 euro for 5000 sterling.

121,000 miles though? That's fairly intense over 4 years. My 08 is just pushing 121,000 now, and that's 3 years older. Would you not either up the budget and/or drop back a year? I'm aware that's possibly entering the older shape though. There's plenty of them out there, you should be spoiled for choice.

So looks like I am settling on this one.

Cleared with VRT, ferry, sterling, the works, for just under 10k

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2010-60-Ford-Mondeo-2-0-TDCi-140-Titanium-X-TOP-OF-RANGE-MODEL-FSH-/181644511391?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a4adb489f

Anyone want to tell me I am making a mistake? Nows the time.

HPI check done and its clean. On hold for me until I go over in the morning.

Looks like a cracking deal there..
We bought a 2010 Zetec 140BHP recently and just love it, real nice car to drive. Test drove a 1.8 105BHP and it was lacking in drivability. Ours was a little over €11k but we were trading in our old car with 200k kms on it.

Nope. Collected it today. Drove it back, now got to get it changed over to irish plates.

Knackered. Ferry and train at 2am this morning. Back on 2pm ferry, home for dinner 6pm.
