My wife also loves it, personally I'm not a fan. I think there was a survey taken a few months back and McDonald's finished in the top three, ahead of Starbucks.
Sorry I can't tell you how get similar in your kitchen.
Have you tried lattes or cappuccinos from a tassimo machine.

I stay away from Lattes and Cappucinnos as I'm losing weight :)

So is it just an americano you get so?
You can get a lovely Costa americano for the tassimo and the have carte noire and kenco Colombian, Kenyan, crema.
Also the tassimo cappuccinos aren't highly calorific http://m.nutracheck.co.uk/CaloriesIn/Brand/Tassimo?mobile=1

No problem, if you do decide to go down the tassimo route there's a great deal in Argos at the moment. http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/1221943/Trail/searchtext%3ETASSIMO.htm

    Good find!

Is that machine any good? Also, what is availability and price of capsules like?

I've used the different Tassimo machines and they all use the same pods and produce the same coffee.
The only discernible differences are water tank size and aesthetics as far as I can see.
My local SuperValu stock all the Costa ones and Tesco have a great range, around 8 different varieties normally.
