Chinese Xenon headlights

    My (second hand) Honda Jazz as fitted with after-market Xenon headlights which worked fine for 4+ years. On Friday, one of them bulbs got busted; started looking for a my actual equipment, found out I am wearing Philips ballasts and Chinese bulbs - H4 with hi/low (don't know if it's bi-xenon or xenon/halogen).

    Now the difficult part is to find a set that matches all specs.. To be honest, online, things are a bit vague and I am not reaching the confidence level to put the order down. Furthermore, my NCT is in 2 weeks, and the room for error is too narrow..

    Any suggestions for specialists around Dublin that work with Chinese headlight and could carry out this replacement?

    I'm not sure is that a genuine Philips ballast,if it were it would have "lighting" spelled correctly :pac:

    The globe/bulb is just a generic HID one,not sure if it is a hi/lo one though,if there is a pair of narrow wires going to it as well as the 2 thick ones that power the light,then it is a hi/lo. Find out the colour temp and if it is a hi/lo and order one from ebay. I don't think HIDs pass the NCT anymore though,but I don't have them so I wouldn't really be too well read on the subject

    I'm sure they put more effort into replicating the internals hahaha a great bunch of lads.

    @op,

    All these kits have practically disappeared from shops as its illegal to use a HID bulb in a non-HID reflector headlight as it causes a blinding glare to on-coming drivers. It is also a guaranteed NCT fail.

    Do us all a favour and stick in a standard bulb.

    When did this one come in effect?

    April 2012 - from the NCT Manual

    HID headlamps must be installed as a complete type-approved system. The system will include automatic cleaning. HID headlamps can be recognised by:
    a) the light having a bluish tinge,
    b) the light taking a few seconds to reach full intensity,
    c) the headlamp having an igniter module/inverter behind the headlamp,
    d) the headlamp having ”DC” (for HID dipped beam), “DR” (for HID main beam), or “DCR” (if both are HID) marked on the lens. This marking should be visible from the exterior of the vehicle but in some cases the markings may be hidden under the bonnet and this may need opening to obtain a clear view.
