I was looking at a 2004 Opel Corsa 1.2 which I was interested in buying. Everything was immaculate except for one thing. When I turned on the ignition both the engine light and emission light did not illuminate. I assume they should
and maybe they are off to cover a fault. Car is driving fine too. Can someone that knows give their opinion.
    Thanks.

I'd assume the same, walk away. There are plenty of other cars out there.

It's just i've seen this problem on a few Corsa's so wasn't sure should they light or not. I wonder how do they remove the lights.

You don't remove them as such, you just put something dark between the bulb and the instrument cluster.

Ok. The seller pleaded innocence and said he will get it scanned at an Opel garage and hopefully fix any problems.

    It's a NCT fail also.

Do they check now for missing dash lights? I didn't know this.

The engine management light comes on for about 10 seconds when the ignition is switched on. This is the car doing a quick diagnostic to make sure there are no faults. They will fail it if the EML doesn't come on and go out after 10 seconds or so.

They did fail for EML on / not present on startup, but not any more. Car will pass now with EML on as long as emissions are within spec.
